We are looking for a MANAGING EDITOR, to join us on a 10 month contract and we are super excited to provide someone with a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity: the chance to lead and own the production function for the creative team, in one of Australia’s most exciting and fastest growing businesses. 

WHO YOU ARE

As Managing Editor, you are responsible for managing the editorial and graphics team functions. You will oversee the output of content, from commissioning copy and idea generation to mentoring and managing a team of writers and designers.  You will manage all communication in relation to editorial, working closely with the Head of Fashion, Creative Operations Manager, and Head of Creative Content & Social. You will be a process-driven and strategic thinker - keen to improve existing workflow and implement best-practice. 

Reporting to THE ICONIC’s Head of Creative Content & Social, this role sits within the wider Marketing & Production team.  You will work directly with all key creative, marketing, category management and production stakeholders to contribute to THE ICONIC’s creative output.

You will be a key voice in the creative leadership team, shaping the fashion and cultural storytelling of Australia’s biggest online fashion retailer. This position requires a broad range of expertise. The right candidate will have extensive experience moving between creative, social, team management and digital marketing remits effortlessly.

  • Planning and organising editorial schedule, overseeing editorial content creation. 
  • Day-to-day line management of graphic designers and writers. 
  • Work with creative team managers to ideate seasonal stories and concepts.  
  • Managing multiple briefs across editorial, sponsored content, and partnerships. 
  • Creatively lead concepts with Head of Creative Content & Social to create on brand and shareable creative, including video. 
  • Oversee monthly editorial budget, running regular reports and working with Head of Creative and Creative Operations Manager to deliver content to budget.
  • Drive page layouts that best represent the story and content, in close collaboration with senior designer, styling and UX teams. 
  • Work closely with Creative Producer, Photography and Style teams on photo and video campaign shoots to ensure creative storytelling is of a consistently high standard and in line with THE ICONIC brand. 
  • Collaborate with Social Media Manager to ensure stories are mobile, social video first, and editorial story content is distributed smartly across all social media channels.
  • Support Head of Creative Content & Social to ensure the Creative team work effectively, meeting deadlines and business objectives. 

What you will bring to this role… 

  • A highly proficient manager with strong experience in an editorial role, leading a high performing team. 
  • A sharp writer and editor with 8+ years of solid bylines. 
  • An enthusiastic attitude with a ‘can-do’ approach to tasks and briefs, no matter how big or small. You will need to be proactive and resourceful in your approach to all aspects of the role. 
  • Excellent time management skills, an ability to multitask and problem solve autonomously in a calm and professional manner. 
  • Excellent communication skills and an ability to manage internal and external stakeholders with strong client and agency relationships within the Australian fashion industry. 
  • A bold sense of confidence and trust in yourself.
  • Detail-oriented, process and deadline-driven with an ability to manage multiple projects per week. 
  • Enjoy a fast pace, constant change and feel comfortable in a ‘test and learn’ environment where we’re often doing things for the first time
  • A strong and experienced leader who is able to mentor a team and create a high-performing and happy environment.
