About GippsTech

We’re a regional social enterprise focused on bringing world-class software and web development capabilities to regional businesses. Founded by ex-Googler Elena Kelareva, we have a leadership team of alumni from leading Melbourne companies, and a broader team comprising of some of Gippsland’s best and brightest junior to mid level talent, working together to give regional businesses the same access to world-class digital marketing, web development and IT consulting expertise as you’ll find in top Melbourne agencies.

We're a well known and highly regarded organisation in the Gippsland region, having been recognised with a number of awards both as a business and for the work of individual staff. We're highly engaged in the Gippsland community, sitting on boards for organisations such as Committee for Gippsland and the Gippsland Social Enterprise Network. We proudly support a range of local community initiatives such as STEM Sisters, the Binary Shift Regional Innovation Conference and Gippsland Pride Initiative. We work with a diverse range of clients, from government to rapidly growing startups to local small businesses.

About the opportunity: Are you the Engineering Manager we are looking for?

You live and breathe web development, with deep experience across WordPress, WooCommerce, JavaScript, HTML, CSS, React, and other web development frameworks. WordPress in particular is your bread and butter - you’ve built plenty of custom themes and plugins, you've worked on a couple of 6-figure WordPress projects, and you know how to use WordPress to build high-end enterprise websites, not just small business websites. You're passionate about teaching junior developers and helping to develop the skills and careers of our small and passionate team.

You've got experience in a fast paced agency environment and can lead a team and juggle competing priorities to deliver multiple projects on time and on budget. You're experienced enough at working with designers to be able to manage UX design yourself for smaller projects and you know design tools such as Photoshop and Invitation well enough to knock together a mock-up or some website assets if you have to, though you're also happy to work with full-time designers for the bigger projects or those that need really high end design. While frontend development is your key area of expertise, you also know your way around DNS, database migrations and WordPress deployments and can deliver small to medium websites without relying on backend or DevOps support.

You understand that a website is just a means to an end, and can work with marketers, business analysts and directly with clients to understand the purpose of a website for the client's business, and design a website to achieve that within scope and budget. You have excellent emotional intelligence and are able to communicate effectively, manage expectations and resolve disagreements with diverse stakeholders from your own team and cross functional colleagues, to non-tech-savvy small business owners, to key stakeholders in larger clients' organisations. You're excited about helping small businesses and building websites that make a difference to regional communities, and you're keen to be part of a highly engaged, diverse team.

  1. Significant experience in design, web development and specifically Wordpress with demonstrated successes delivering to client scope, including delivery of larger more complex projects for high-end clients.

  4. Strong sense of responsibility and ownership of delivery of projects, commitment to do whatever it takes to meet client expectations of quality, timelines and budget.
  5. Victorian candidates preferred, overseas applicants not invited at this time. This position has a requirement to travel to Gippsland minimum monthly for the purpose of team in-person events, however work can be remote the rest of the time.
