Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

Are you passionate about empowering teams to use data to bring meaningful change to the lives of millions of small businesses and their communities?

Can you inspire busy professionals to grow their data literacy and embrace new ways of thinking about problems?

Are you trusted by your peers to help unpack complex data-related and ethical issues, like algorithmic bias, or targeting in digital advertising?

The Data Team is responsible for driving the adoption of data driven decision making across Xero - for both our internal users and our global audience of small business owners, bookkeepers and accountants. We create, manage and deliver a wide range of data services including core reporting, key data dimensions, extensible and scalable analytical data processing and storage facilities, machine learning toolsets, frameworks and AI prediction services.

We are the center of expertise for data architecture, data modeling, machine learning, ethical data usage and artificial intelligence service design. We lead the effort to raise the data and AI literacy levels across Xero.

As a Data Evangelist in the Data team, you will be on the front line of our drive to raise data and AI literacy across the global Xero workforce. At Xero we believe that having a high level of data and AI literacy across the business is critical to our ambitions to become a data driven company. While adjacent teams will provide some of the subject matter expertise and teachers, you’ll be responsible for planning, executing and measuring the ongoing effectiveness of the education and training initiatives.

What you'll do

  • Contribute to design and delivery of a range of education, training and facilitation activities either directly or through engaging external specialists where appropriate
  • Contribute to and execute the education roadmap to uplift the data literacy of our wider workforce, working with technical specialists across multiple disciplines to understand and prioritize opportunities for growth and develop programs to grow skills and knowledge
  • Contribute to a comprehensive approach to measuring the efficacy of the training initiative, including an estimation of the commercial benefit to Xero
  • Identify and leverage the highest impact ways to grow knowledge across a fast growing organisation where teams live with multiple, competing priorities
  • Establish a range of situationally specific methods to uplift capabilities from traditional training/learning through to nurturing communities of practice
  • Seek to understand incentives and impediments around behavioural change and consider ways to make it easier for people to implement their new skills and knowledge
  • Use your prioritisation skills to make the right calls on what needs to be addressed when and how value can be delivered as early as possible
  • Champion the ethical application of data and artificial intelligence and ensure the curriculum and examples always promote best practice with respect to the safe and privacy preserving use of data
  • Use your understanding of the relationships between growing data skills and the quality of our data assets to work with the Data leadership team and relevant Product teams to highlight issues and improve the coherence and fidelity of our data
  • You'll have experience in
