About the role

Reporting to the Global Director of Taxation, this is a newly created role within our AU finance organisation.  As a fast-growing Australian fintech with recent expansion into global markets, we need a highly motivated tax professional to be the subject matter expert - working closely with the Director of Taxation on all things AU tax. Supported by Zip’s Tax advisors, the role will be hands-on ensuring Zip is meeting both its current and future taxation filing and reporting obligations.
Operating within the AU Finance Team, the Taxation Manager will take direction from the Direction of Tax with a key focus on AU tax compliance including income tax return & tax effect accounting.
With Zip's ever-expanding global reach the role will also involve managing the global tax compliance register, the global tax risk management register and support the Director of Taxation on implementing transfer pricing policies across the group.

What you'll own and support:

  • Preparation of AU consolidated income tax return & all associated schedules (including Thin capitalization, International Dealings Schedule, TOFA disclosures, CFC disclosures)
  • Work with Director of Taxation in dealings with overseas subsidiaries, coordinating high-level taxation reviews and ensuring tax compliance on overseas subsidiaries with tax effect accounting balances
  • Preparation of tax effect accounting entries for subsidiary members & at a consolidated level including origination of statements of taxable income
  • Reconciliation of balances of Deferred Tax Asset, Deferred Tax Liability and Provision for tax Analytics of balances and movements and ASX note disclosures
  • Oversight of the Australian BAS returns, including implementation of improvement procedures, GST controls management
  • Support Director of Taxation on ad hoc GST advice across all stakeholders including new products / new financial service offerings
  • Assist Director of Tax in their liaison with the Company’s tax advisors on technical issues pertaining to the Group and various compliance matters
  • Supporting business operating units on taxation matters (incl. GST, income tax, withholding)
  • To help us level up, you'll bring:

  • 10 years post-grad taxation related experience in both a Chartered and large business environment
  • Australian ASX or large company experience
  • Previous experience in financial services with the ability to work at pace
  • CA / CPA qualified
  • Post-Grad Tax Qualifications (eg Masters of Tax) preferable
  • Strong experience in tax effect accounting & ASX statutory tax notes preparation
  • Demonstrated tax administration experience;
  • Good understanding of AU tax consolidations issues and concepts
  • Experience in providing tax advice (esp GST)
  • Reasonable experience in overseas subsidiaries and overseas tax issues incl. cross-border transactions and transfer pricing
  • Strong experience with tax effect accounting software
  • Self-starter, ability to take initiative and strong ability to follow up
  • Ability to communicate tax issues effectively to both accountants and non-accountants
