About the Opportunity
We have multiple opportunities for a Mid-Senior Engineer to join our team in Melbourne. The Platform Engineering team is responsible for the build, deploy, monitoring, and maintenance of the underlying cloud infrastructure platform at Afterpay. Its our objective to ensure product development teams can provision new services to the platform with reduced lead times and stack complexity. We want our product teams to be able to focus on building new product features by providing a highly available infrastructure platform. We operate in a fast-paced and constantly changing industry. Our Engineers work with current technology in a fast-paced environment where their work matters and is appreciated.
About the team
Our team of Cloud Engineers provides a unified managed infrastructure platform for Afterpay services. The Cloud Deploy team’s mission is to build patterns, systems, and infrastructure to enable our global product teams to deploy quickly and safely and be able to operate their systems at scale. We’re focused on improving developer experience by streamlining CI and CD processes with a focus on zero-touch deployment automation. We want product teams to be able to focus on building new product features and not be delayed by provisioning and management of the underlying infrastructure. We aim to build tools and automate where possible rather than rely on manually intensive processes.
What you’ll be doing
Deploying, automating and managing a globally distributed, highly available AWS cloud infrastructure platform
Using Kubernetes to orchestrate the deployment, scaling, and management of containers
Provisioning and maintaining Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) using infrastructure as code frameworks such as Terraform and CloudFormation
Supporting our product teams to move to a microservices architecture, by providing tooling and support to minimise the overhead of platform management on product teams
Implementing and maintaining CI and CD processes and manage build tools to improve the developer experience for our global product teams
Working within an empowered product team utilising Agile and Lean thinking to build tools for your internal engineering customers
Seeking to automate manual repetitive operational work (toil) to maximise the time spent on engineering projects
4+ years of relevant industry experience
Experience with public cloud platforms (AWS preferred)
Solid understanding of how to build Infrastructure as code and experience with Terraform or CloudFormation
Experience with Container Orchestration Platforms such as Kubernetes and ECS Fargate preferred
Experience with AWS services including EC2, ECS, EKS, EBS, AMI, RDS, EBS, Lambda, CloudWatch, CloudTrail, CloudFormation, CloudFront, IAM, S3, Route53.
Hands-on Python and/or Bash development experience desirable
Skilled in Continuous Integration Deployment & Delivery (CI/CD) practices
Experience with version control, preferably Git
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Informed about Site Reliability Engineering (SRE)
Willingness to learn and apply new methodologies as required
