Airtasker is one of Australia’s fastest growing tech companies. Our mission is to empower people to realise the full value of their skills. Our marketplace creates jobs and earning opportunities for people all over Australia and internationally, leveraging skills that they might not have previously known could provide them an income.

Recently listed on the ASX, we’ve created over $1.1billion in job opportunities since we started, and are looking for an exceptional Director of Product Management.

The Director of Product is responsible and accountable for setting a compelling vision and a winning strategy for a large portion of the marketplace, usually spanning several teams. They operate in a leadership capacity and there is a clear expectation that they shape the teams and roadmaps within their remit to maximise our chances to achieve company goals.

The role is the connective tissue between the executive leadership team and the product teams delivering on the company strategy. As such, they are expected to effectively translate and convey contexts in both directions, ensuring that key insights are surfaced early and that we swiftly adjust our company strategy and/or execution tactics.

We are looking for a strong leader who can hire well, coach well and constantly raise the bar within the product management function and beyond. You will continuously communicate your product vision and strategy to the broader organisation, relentlessly aim to ground your team’s decisions in company goals and customer outcomes, and ensure blockers and issues of any nature are resolved before they get a chance to fester.

What you'll do:

  • Develop the vision and strategy for your group in close collaboration with the CPO, Engineering Directors, Product Managers and their cross-functional teams.
  • Relentlessly communicate your vision and strategy at every level (from CEO to IC-level employee) to ensure buy-in and alignment.
  • Deeply understand the end-to-end metrics for your space and how they fit into the bigger picture, stay on top of any material movement and be prepared to communicate what caused it (or what you’re doing to find out) as part of the Monthly Metrics Review session.
  • Create clear and compelling strategy documents that frame new opportunities, and effectively communicate their size, the investment required, material risks involved, and a clear opinion as to whether we should pursue them.
  • Drive regular strategy and OKR planning activities for your group, and ensure each team’s plans account for any shifts in business priorities.
  • Own the joint roadmaps of teams within your remit, and ensure key dependencies and synergies are identified well ahead of delivery kick off, and prioritisation, sequencing and resourcing of initiatives account for these.
  • Own hiring and performance management for your group, and constantly obsess over having the right people in the right spot at the right time.
  • Devise learning and development plans for your PM reports and provide targeted and effective coaching to grow them into effective Product leaders.
  • Be the custodian of best practices in modern product discovery and constantly raise the bar for its velocity and effectiveness in producing validated learnings.
  • Display deep empathy for Customers/Taskers and relentlessly connect big picture thinking with real user stories.
  • Ensure operational blockers are swiftly removed and teams have access to best in class tools to do their jobs efficiently.
  • Identify emerging technologies, consumer trends and/or potential partnerships that present an opportunity to grow our market share or improve our margins.
  • What it takes to be successful in this role:

  • Strong understanding of modern Product Management concepts and practices (e.g. Lean, Dual Track Agile, Product Discovery techniques, Design Sprint) and ability to specify complex discovery work for others.
  • Strong knowledge of different analytics roadmapping, project management and collaboration tools.
  • Robust understanding of the engineering process, as well as UX and UI best practices.
  • Excellent company-level strategy setting skills. This includes strategy and vision setting, as well as guiding teams throughout roadmap creation.
  • Presentation and storytelling skills that excite a range of audiences (customers, current and potential employees, professional networks) about Airtasker's mission, vision and strategy.
  • Ability to map big picture priorities and context to low-level data points and tactical decisions.
  • Ability to consistently execute and deliver results in a complex environment across a broad problem space and multiple teams.
  • Strong program and stakeholder management skills.
  • Excellent negotiating and communication skills.
  • What you'll love:

  • Competitive compensation package
