About the role

The DevOps Engineer works in a cross-functional product development team that includes Infrastructure Automation Engineers, Developers, QAs, Designers and Product Managers. This role will be responsible for ensuring our tooling is an enabler of organisational agility. Specifically that we have robust and automated processes that move code from commit, through build and automated quality assurance processes, to deployment to staging environments and thereafter into production environments.

About you

You will be responsible for ensuring the products that the cross-functional team is responsible for are available, secure, scalable, robust, high performing and cost effective to serve both Xero customers and partners.

What you'll bring with you

  • Ideally experience with improving release processes and deployment pipelines using approaches like blue/green deployments, canary releases and testing in production
  • Hands-on experience managing infrastructure in a high-availability environment, preferably Windows and SQL Server technologies, and preferably strong exposure to AWS
  • Have experience building and maintaining highly available systems ideally with Configuration Management Systems such as Terraform, Chef, Puppet or Ansible
  • Professional hands on experience in the  configuration or optimization of build frameworks (including MS Build / VS Team Build, Maven or Gradle) will be highly regarded
  • Have experience in administration of container orchestration frameworks (including ECS and Kubernetes) and Docker
  • Successful track record of providing tooling and support for multiple development teams and/or large-scale distributed systems
  • Experience working in a DevOps, Release Engineering, or similar role
  • Experience with Test-driven or Spec-driven testing and QA practices
  • Experience with Windows and/or Linux administration (Red Hat, Debian, Ubuntu high regarded) , and Infrastructure management
  • Experience with shell scripting (bash or korn shell scripting) and Windows PowerShell will be highly regarded
