Posted a month ago

Our mission is to bring sustainable biology to the world. Provectus uses Precision Photosynthesis® to accelerate nature in a proprietary biomanufacturing platform to produce some of the world's most valuable specialty ingredients, enabling industries in new ways and driving the next wave of agriculture, consumer and therapeutics products.

Headquartered in the idyllic Noosa, Australia, our team has built a viable, scalable and sustainable product development and biomanufacturing platform. We are now scaling operations, bringing products to global markets and expanding our product development pipeline to meet the demand from some of the world’s largest corporations.

The Bioinformatician will report to the Director of R&D and is responsible for developing a genomic, transcriptomic and metabolomic database to identify future products in algae. You will be an expert in genomics, though a firm grasp of metabolomics is essential. You will create connections between systems biology databases and interact with molecular biologists and data scientists. A successful candidate in this role will ensure we have robust data within our product pipeline to support commercial decision-making.

Responsibilities:

  • Supervise >2 staff members and oversee the collection of genomic and transcriptomic data, and where necessary perform experimental work extracting samples for analysis;
  • Establish our pipeline for de novo genome assembly, annotation, gene expression and bioinformatic analysis, and where appropriate train other staff using these tools;
  • Develop and maintain our infrastructure and standard processes for collecting, analysing, searching and using our database of genome, transcriptomes and metabolomes;
  • Collaborate with our software team to create solutions for our synthetic biology and analytical chemistry teams;
  • Oversee laboratory safety and operations in a manner consistent with company policies and best practice;
  • Organise and order inventory required for the uninterrupted execution of experiments;
  • Proactively identify and implement initiatives to improve the laboratory;
  • Thrive in a fast-paced environment with the ability to adjust workload based on changing priorities.

Requirements:

  • Necessary:
    • Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Systems Biology or a related discipline
    • Hands-on experience creating and maintaining biological databases
    • Strong computational skills
  • Desirable:
    • >2 years experience in an industrial setting
    • Experience using metabolic modelling to optimise metabolite production in a microbial system
    • Experience using Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS)
    • Knowledge of modern biochemistry, systems biology and analytical chemistry

Opportunities:

  • Work with a company at the forefront of sustainable products for the future
  • Live and work on the Sunshine Coast, with work-life balance to enjoy the location
  • A diverse and inclusive workplace
  • Inclusive culture with monthly team events

We are a progressive and creative team who firmly believe in diversity and equal opportunity as we build a world-leading organisation. We want the right people on the bus who strive to learn, aim for excellence and take pride in their achievements.
