About the Engineering Enablement Manager job:

This is a truly unique opportunity for an experienced Learning and Development (L&D) professional to dive into the world of engineering and partner with our engineering leadership. This role focuses on the learning/development and enablement of individuals, as well as organisational development, for a rapidly scaling global engineering team.

As our Engineering Enablement Manager, you’ll use your collaboration and influencing skills to gain the confidence of our Engineering Managers and their squads, where you’ll dive deeper into the pain points and challenges of each of our teams, where you’ll look to uncover opportunities; including:

  • Creating engaging, consistent, informative and delightful onboarding experience for technical hires.
  • capabilities/skills matrix, curriculum and learning pathways,
  • working with our P&C team in developing career pathways for our growing tech team, including robust and practical performance measurement tools, and clear pathways to promotion
  • creation of training programs, including facilitation of technical training, which may include courses on code development, testing, security etc
  • our approach to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC), including our ways of working and helping our team anticipate the challenges of scale, and how we can best arm our people and their managers as we grow, pivot and evolve.
  • measuring our current state, gathering key metrics and analytics to understand progress, and showcasing opportunities to our leadership team and board.
  • working with a variety of cross-functional teams and people, you’ll know how to influence and effect diplomacy to achieve goals.

This role reports to the Head of Engineering and will work alongside Engineering Managers. You’ll work closely with our Learning and Development (L&D) team, including our Head of L&D.

A bit more of what you’ll be responsible for:

  • Own the development, tracking and maintenance of Engineering knowledge and skill standards
  • Curate and develop tailored training programs for each discipline, technology and experience level of the Engineering Team
  • Measure and monitor key competencies of training participants and the ongoing development and assessment of Engineering Team members
  • Set the baseline expectation of developer capabilities, build a mentoring and onboarding program for new starters meeting this expectation, including acceleration of the time-to-productivity of new starters
  • Work closely with Engineering Subject Matter Experts, and our Learning and Development team to deliver a comprehensive and consistent training experience
  • Define and drive key metrics, actively demonstrate improvements and how these positively impact the day-to-day deliverables of the team and the value to the business
  • Build documentation and complementary assets of key system concepts and components that aid the wider Engineering team
  • Drive internal continuous improvement programs within the Engineering Team

Your experience, skills and qualifications:

  • Deep experience in a similar position, such as Learning and Development Manager - particularly working with technical teams, and/or fast scaling tech start-ups.
  • Experience in an individual contributor role, where you need to use your influence and experience to make large organisational changes
  • Experience in rolling out technical training programs
  • An understanding and exposure to the Software Development Lifecycle (SDLC)
  • Developer empathy, understanding of what drives Engineering team members and ability to identify areas for improvement
  • Very strong communication skills, particularly in presenting/facilitating, including with non-native English speakers
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field

Nice to have/bonus:

  • Bachelor’s or Masters in Computer Science, Software Engineering or equivalent
  • Coding/scripting experience in languages such as Ruby, JavaScript, C#
  • Experience working in a fast-paced SaaS environment
