Join our dynamic legal team as our Legal Counsel in a newly created role and work on a variety of complex technology legal issues across the entire business.  

The Legal Team is truly embedded to deliver efficient and responsive legal advice.  Adapting agile methodology to run as a highly efficient and transparent team, a lot of value is placed on collaboration, constantly evolving, and striving to be the best in-house legal team in the industry.

In this true partnership role, you’ll work directly with the business to be the key voice providing legal advice on new initiatives, business growth, and product development for the suite of Envato’s products across multiple jurisdictions.  Some of the work you’ll do includes: 

  • Advise, draft and negotiate content distribution agreements, technology services agreements and other commercial contracts in multiple jurisdictions
  • Develop and implement compliance and regulatory initiatives 
  • Partner with highly regarded external counsel from around the world
  • Collaborate with cross functional teams including Product, Engineering, Design, Paid Growth, Marketing, & Tax 
  • Streamline self-serve business processes and draft templates for our resource library
  • Be the SME and deliver professional training on key topics to our employees

 

Our expectations: 

We are looking for a commercial lawyer who is looking to transition to an in-house role in a privately owned, global tech business.  We’d love it if you’ve had experience in an in-house role or secondment opportunities in a SaaS business or in the tech space with exposure to IP law or Privacy.  You’ll have a strong track record of understanding complex business problems and influencing a range of stakeholders using solid interpersonal and relationship building skills and a demonstrated ability to autonomously run a portfolio of matters. 

  • Four to seven years PQE in a top tier firm, in-house experience is advantageous, but not essential 
  • Tertiary legal qualifications, and be eligible to hold a Victorian practising certificate
  • Demonstrated experience drafting and negotiating commercial contracts
  • Experience in privacy law and spam, consumer protection law, competition law and corporate governance
  • A track record dealing with commercial legal matters in the tech industry will be highly regarded
