About the role:

Trust in Xero’s accounting system is key for millions of small businesses and partners. They use it daily to run their businesses, and need a trustworthy audit trail to easily, safely and accurately keep track of all the transactions and events that happen on their account.

As a Product Manager in the History & Notes team, you’ll be responsible for modernising and evolving the audit trail functionality across multiple product lines in our small business product. This role directly impacts Xero’s vision ‘to be the most insightful and trusted small business platform’ and has a lot of exciting opportunities and potential for growth. 

The audit trail is a data rich area of the Xero product and involves the development of back end systems, APIs and integrations. You’ll be responsible for setting the product vision & roadmap for the global auditing system, based on the needs of both external customers and internal product teams, strategic opportunities, and overall company priorities. You’ll work with a talented and collaborative team of designers, business analysts and engineers to deliver compelling products and services at scale that solve real problems for our customers.

What you'll do:

  • Understand customer problems and be the champion of the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ 
  • Deliver value through defining, driving and executing a product roadmap that realises Xero’s vision and objectives and ensures the success of the product
  • Develop an understanding of the company’s technology landscape and interface with the Engineering Team in order to successfully lead the vision for the product
  • Partner with feature, domain, and platform teams within Xero to understand their needs & provide a auditing service to them
  • Understand, manage & communicate the tradeoffs and interdependencies inherent in building a platform product that spans multiple product lines
  • Be obsessed about the wants, needs, and challenges small businesses around the world face every day
  • Work cross-functionally to guide products from inception to launch by connecting & translating across the technical, data, design and business worlds, while building strong & positive relationships
  • Set quarterly OKRs for the team to execute against
  • Bring methods, tools, and structure to the way we build product so that we can deliver value consistently and repeatedly
  • Use strategic thinking, metrics, and data to inform your prioritisation, judgement & decision making about the most valuable opportunities for the team to pursue and deliver
  • Work with data, research and product marketing teams to drive product engagement and undertake competitive research to uncover customer needs and new product value propositions in line with the portfolio vision
  • Work closely with Business Analysts and Engineers to deliver quality software with amazing user experiences that solve real customer problems 
  • What you'll have:

  • 2-3 years Product Management experience in a similar role
  • Proven experience working in complex, data rich back-end domains at scale
  • Proven strategic thinking skills and experience, being able to navigate complex problem spaces and lead teams to progress by fostering an open and collaborative environment.
  • Proven experience setting a product vision and roadmap
  • Systems thinker
  • Proven experience using a range of metrics to monitor the success and health of products and services. Proven experience of making evidence-based decisions.
  • A solid track record of addressing internal & external customer needs. Proven experience connecting teams closer with customers (and not just be a proxy for them).
  • Excellent stakeholder management skills. Proven experience building meaningful, collaborative relationships across all levels of the business.
  • Proven experience advocating for/evangelising a product or service with customers and stakeholders
  • Previous experience with API design and Domain Driven Design is a plus
  • SaaS experience is a plus
