We’re also the brains behind Pocketbook, which helps almost a million Aussies take control of their money and improve their financial wellbeing.

Our values are at the heart of everything we do. They form our Mamba mentality - how we’re better than yesterday, and are used to create game-changing experiences for our customers and our people.

About the role
We're looking for a legal leader who will advise our Product, Marketing and Operations teams on core regulatory obligations across all business lines (including Zip Pay, Zip Money, Zip Business, and Pocketbook products and services). The right person for this role will be strategically focused and provide concise regulatory advice for the life cycle of every Zip product (including product launches and updates required due to strategic or regulatory changes). You will be the SME on all regulatory areas that Zip’s business touches on including, but not limited to, consumer and business credit (NCCPA and ASIC Act), financial services and licensing requirements (including ACL and AFSL), privacy (Privacy Act and Spam Act), AML/CTF, and other payment regulations and industry codes of conduct.

A day in the life:

  • Provide advice on regulatory issues such as National Consumer Credit Protection Act, ASIC Act, Corporations Act (Ch 7), Privacy Act, Spam Act, AML/CTF, and regulatory guides (including RG 234).
  • Provide practical, risk-appropriate legal and regulatory driven advice on across all of Zip’s current and future products and features, to support Zip’s continuing growth and innovation.
  • Advise on and ensure compliance with the licenses/regulatory requirements issued across ANZ and represent ANZ on the global landscape re any regulatory items.
  • Keep up to date with recent and impending industry and regulatory changes affecting Zip’s unregulated and regulated landscape – including being the point person on developing regulatory changes.
  • Advise on privacy and data security and AML/CTF matters impacting the business and day to day support of marketing teams for customer communications, promotions and marketing roadmaps.
  • Build out frameworks and processes to streamline product and marketing reviews.
  • Your skills:

  • Around 8 years’ PQE and admission to practice in Australian jurisdiction.
  • Excellent legal technical skills across applicable regulatory landscape, including strong experience in credit, payments, financial services and/or banking.
  • Experience in a law firm and/or in house within the banking or finance space.
  • Experience raising risks and concerns in a timely matter while aligning internal teams for successful project completion
  • Exceptional communication skills and ability to get across legal issues and new regulatory landscapes quickly.
  • Ability to work closely with and influence senior management and stakeholders.
  • Bonus points for:

  • Experience within a FinTech or Payments product organization.

  • We’re looking for someone who always finds new boundaries to cross - a future Zipster who will obsess over excellence and make constant improvements for our customers. We’ve removed the red tape here to get things done quickly, so if you see a problem, own the solution. You've gotta hustle at Zip!

If you only meet some of the requirements for this role, that's okay. We value a diverse range of backgrounds and ideas and believe this is fundamental for our future success. So, if you have the curiosity to learn and the willingness to teach what you know, we'd love to hear from you.
