Posted 23 days ago

The Operations Manager sits at the centre of fund operations and manages all the components of our business that work in cohort to produce good investment outcomes.

We have outsourced many technical fund management functions, so no deep technical knowledge is required - rather the skills that we are looking for are more centred around the ability to:

  • manage service providers such as lawyers/trustee; and
  • Construct and improve our internal organisation, cloud-based workflows and processes to enable us to make better, faster decisions; and
  • Oversee the preparation of fund communications.

The Operations Manager will report to the Managing Partner

Broadly speaking, this is how you’ll spend your time:

1. Investment Execution:

The Operations Manager will be responsible for managing the external legal advisors and/or counterparties to take transactions approved by the Investment Committee through to completion.

2. Establishment of low friction fund processes:

In conjunction with the Managing Partner, continuously improve the quality and efficiency of the cloud-based frameworks that power SecondQuarter’s decision making in a manner that does not compromise speed. Examples of this might include improving how we assess and record:

  • Investment decisions
  • Intelligence on companies we target
  • Ongoing portfolio performance
  • Relationships with our investor and target investee companies.

3. General Operations:

This involves overseeing the processes that are more internal in nature, particularly in relation to communications with our Trustee. Examples will include:

  • Overseeing capital calls, reporting and the production and distribution of NAV Statements
  • Making occasional payment instructions to the Trustee;
  • Running and improving communication processes with the Trustee;
  • Maintenance of transaction templates such as NDAs, TermSheets etc
  • Managing the relationship with our service providers which will include making sure we are giving them what they need to do their job well;

4. Special Projects:

We’re a new business with a hearty ambition. There will undoubtedly be plenty of special projects along the way and there will be many opportunities ahead of us that we will need to work through together.

Who should apply?

Anyone with a university degree and 4+ years of general legal/commercial experience and/or senior operations experience in a technology company. You must be comfortable managing external service providers and have experience building cloud workflow processes.

The position is ideally, but not necessarily, based in Sydney and we support remote working.

We offer a competitive base salary commensurate with experience. In addition, you will be offered a share of fund performance economics, subject to vesting over several years.
