Shippit’s data, analytics, and business systems are the foundation for its growth. This team is responsible for all systems that primarily affect internal stakeholders and the way they conduct business, including Salesforce, Netsuite, and Zendesk, and how these systems interact with the Shippit platform. The team is also responsible for operationalising data and analytics across Shippit, maintaining and improving on Shippit’s analytics stack, which consists of Fivetran, Snowflake, dbt and Looker.


The Analytics Engineer is focused on ensuring data is transformed and fit for consumption across the business. The main purpose of this role is to transform data from a variety of sources, including the Shippit app, internal business systems (such as Zendesk, Salesforce, Netsuite) and external sources of information (such as map layers). This data must be in a form that is easily analysed by others throughout the business. Transformations must be documented, version-controlled, and deployed with attention to CI/CD principles as well as usability. In addition, the Analytics Engineer must ensure that transformations accurately reflect business logic and requirements, working to synchronise definitions used in other parts of the Shippit ecosystem with the data warehouse.

This person must thrive in a rapidly evolving environment, have a deep interest in technology and SAAS, and have a strong interest in new and different ways of performing analysis and process engineering. Curiosity and tenacity are key to this role.


  • Custodian of dbt and the analytics warehouse, taking ownership of transformations and turning raw data into actionable information for teams across the business
  • Work closely with the Analytics Lead to improve the state of the analytics warehouse, build data marts and fact tables to improve speed to insights
  • Interface with the Head of Data Platform to evolve data instrumentation for analytics, and keep abreast of new changes to the Shippit platform that would affect downstream data products
  • Execute on definitions on data across the business and engineering practices for data instrumentation
  • Continually consider and leverage additional dataset sources to improve the quality of findings and insights
  • Document processes on data transformation from source to destination
  • Work closely with the Business Systems and Data Manager to advise on best practices for capturing inputs from business systems such as Salesforce, Netsuite and Zendesk to build downstream data products
  • Assist in translating big picture goals into day to day accountability for the sales organisation and collaboration with cross-functional partners (e.g., Finance, Marketing, Product, Operations)
  • Partner with teams across the business to understand what insights would be useful, and in collaboration with the Analytics team, plot a course of action to obtain those insights

  • 5+ years experience working with data platforms and tooling
  • Expert-level SQL knowledge
  • Competency in data transformation with dbt or Airflow
  • Work with the modern analytics stack and demonstrated experience in analytics development utilising the ELT paradigm
  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment with strong communication and influencing skills
  • Thrive under pressure whilst able to prioritise competing tasks
