The Startmate Fellowship is a pathway for talented women to find their sweet spot in a rocketship startup.

Our mission is to actively create opportunities for women from diverse backgrounds and experiences to enter startups, whilst challenging our community to think differently about where their talent comes from.

We want to help connect you to amazing opportunities in startups and build a network of kindred spirits along the way.

Whatever your background - whether you’re a corporate refugee, engineer, work in an agency, come from a hospitality background, a mother returning to the workforce or are a recent graduate - we want to help you find your dream job in a startup.

Our most recent third Fellowship cohort of 24 women finished 4 months ago.

50% of our 40 alumni have joined a startup since graduating.

The typical fellow comes from a corporate, consulting or law background. During the Fellowship we help them find their spot in a rocketship startup.

Some examples of fellows and their transitions include:

  • Nicole Liu - McKinsey to Founder at Eucalyptus
  • Zac Thorneycroft - Sports Ministry to Strategy at Canva
  • Kanav Bhama - Deloitte to COO at Dovetail
  • Annabelle Scott - PwC to Investor at Tempus Partners
  • Katie Noonan - from lawyer to heading up Strategic Partnerships at InsideSherpa

The goal is to place 300 women in startups by the end of 2021 - a tangible impact on gender parity in Australian tech.

We would like to help many more, so we’re expanding our team.

We’re looking for a Fellowship Associate with the skills and talent to help build and engage our community. The core goal of this role is to support the Fellowship selection process, community and program.

The Fellowship Associate will be responsible for:

Fellowship Operations

  • owning the onboarding process, tracking fellow progress, tracking and surfacing key metrics, scheduling and briefing fellows and coaches

Selection Process

  • tracking applicants, coordinating voting and supporting Interview Day

Event Logistics

  • leaning in to create Startmate’s magic moments at the Fellowship events including interview days, kick-off meetings and the program events throughout the cohort

Background is less important than the key skills, which include:

Operational Ability

  • you can keep a thousand balls in the air because you have everything in a system. You thrive in tough environments where there’s never enough time or budget — nothing stops you from delivering on your goals

  • you thrive on working with people, radical honesty, transparency and being a driving force of a whole community

Team Work

  • you are able to manage multiple stakeholders and partners and keep everyone on track to deliver on time

Here are some of the things we love about working at Startmate:

  • Daily contact with the best founders, mentors, operators and investors in Australia
  • Inclusive and caring team who help each other grow and develop as people and as professionals
  • A constant masterclass in startup operations and a behind the scenes view into the world of early-stage venture capital investing
  • The feeling of making the right connection or giving the right feedback to help a fellow unleash their talent and ideas on the world
  • Work fully remotely
