We are looking for a talented Hardware Engineer (Electronics) with a drive to build quality products. Based in Melbourne, you will be a key player in the Research & Development team that designs the wearable tracking hardware that Catapult is famous for. You will be working with the most cutting edge technology and integrating components across our wearables and stadium infrastructure. Reporting to the Engineering Manager, the primary responsibility of the Hardware Engineer (Electronics) is to develop our wearable technology solutions for the elite sports industry.  You will be responsible for the hardware development cycle and to ensure that our products have a high level of quality.

Our hardware engineers drive this ethos by making sure all of this technology comes together in a way our customers love to use.

WHAT YOU’LL DO 

  • Design electronics hardware for our wearable technology and stadium infrastructure.
  • Work with firmware engineers to bring up new boards
  • Do R&D on new measurement and communication technologies that can be adopted in future products.
  • Track tasks using bug tracking software.
  • Document your work in a shared knowledge base platform.
  • Work with test engineers to resolve issues.
  • Work in multidisciplinary teams and interface with other engineers in our team and across various disciplines.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

  • Bachelor degree qualification in electrical / electronics engineering.
  • At least 2 years of electronic development experience.
  • Demonstrated experience in schematic design and circuit board layout using Altium Designer.
  • Experience in debugging and bring-up of new circuit boards.
  • Experience in low-power battery-supplied microcontroller design (STM32, etc.).
  • Experience developing products, scaling them and supporting them throughout the entire lifecycle.
  • Solid background in the use of oscilloscopes and other test equipment for debugging and analysis.
  • Knowledge of circuit simulation using tools such as Pspice/LT Spice.
  • Knowledge of serial communications protocols and hardware interface designs including I2S, I2C, and SPI.
  • Exposure to RF design, including experience using Vector Network Analyzers (VNAs) and spectrum analysis.
  • An understanding of EMC and safety compliance.
  • A working knowledge of the following technologies is highly desired: BTLE / WiFi / CAT-M / UWB / Ethernet.
  • Good soldering skills are highly desired.

Other Requirements:

  • Very strong attention to detail.
  • Proven self-starter.
  • Ability to prioritise and a “can-do” attitude.
  • Ideally experienced with Atlassian’s platform for defect tracking and documentation.
  • Occasionally providing technical support to customers (which may be on the weekend or after hours).
