This role exists within Brighte’s emerging energy business, providing expertise in financial management and forecasting. It requires getting into the detail, with the capacity to solve complex problems and the ability to translate abstract issues to actionable solutions. In addition, the role will take an active part in the design and configuration of the core energy platform, working closely with the finance team to design and implement robust controls across Brighte’s retail and wholesale activities.


  • Work closely with the Head of Wholesale Energy & the Head of Retail Energy to translate business model scenarios into financial forecasts, cash flows and balance sheets.
  • Undertake stress testing based on a range of scenarios and communicate results.
  • Develop budgets, forecasts, and monthly financial reporting that aims to cultivate transparency and improve business performance, and predictability.
  • Creating robust, reliable and user-friendly financial models to evaluate and forecast Brighte’s energy business.
  • Develop unit-economic models and metrics encompassing cost of acquisition, cost to service and lifetime value.
  • Perform routine and ad-hoc analysis to provide strategic insight to improve business performance.
  • Maintain a deep understanding of the key financial drivers and risks, and be able to relate these in commercial terms.
  • Stewardship

  • Develop accounting policy for Brighte’s energy offering in accordance with applicable accounting standards.
  • Ensure energy hedges and other derivatives are appropriately accounted for (e.g. mark to market), managed and reconciled.
  • Put in place effective monitoring systems to track wholesale exposures and limits.
  • Advise on GST as it relates to the energy product and pricing, seeking external advice as necessary.
  • Participate in the configuration of Brighte’s wholesale and retail settlement platform to:
  • Ensure transactions are appropriately mapped to the general ledger.
  • Implement a regime of reconciliation and control accounts to mitigate financial risk.
  • Ensure that GST is correctly configured.
  • Oversee the integration with banking systems and ensure cash is reconciled on a daily basis.
  • Requirements

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant post-qualification experience.
  • CA/CPA qualified.
  • Tertiary qualifications in Finance, Economics or a related field.
  • Commercial background in the retail electricity industry.
  • Strong understanding of National Electricity Market.
  • Advanced Excel (essential) and SQL skills (highly regarded).
  • Strong business acumen with a commercial awareness and insight to commercial drivers and relationships.
