A rare and exciting opportunity has become available to join our high performing and passionate technology teams. We are now seeking a talented & driven Technical Lead with a passion for developing complex, distributed services and helping grow the technical talent of those around them. There will be a mix of creating new functionality and services to take us into the future as well as enhancing and supporting the current services in Java.

What you'll do

  • Provide technical vision and direction. Facilitate, coach and be a guide for great technical direction. Uphold standards, pragmatism and best practices whilst balancing that with inspiring creativity and innovation. Foster initiatives in speed of delivery and customer focus. Balance the needs of product/service features with technical vision and operations;
  • Foster an environment of technical excellence and best practices
  • Encourage technical innovation and experimentation
  • Maintain broad knowledge of technology inside and outside of Tyro
  • Contribute to technical architecture / disseminate developments in technical architecture
  • Monitor the technical quality of the system
  • Resolve technical stalemates
  • Pair with other delivery team members
  • Identify R&D work / maintain R&D documentation and records
  • Support point of contact
  • Lead and build the technical skill and efficiency of the development team. Each team member should be empowered to contribute and make decisions and will need guidance and coaching on what to learn, best practices to use and be as self-sufficient and proactive as possible;
  • Coaching/mentoring/development of delivery team members
  • Foster an environment of continuous technical learning and development
  • Provide input on performance-related matters / identify and actively manage under-performance
  • Provide input into the salary review process
  • Promote staff happiness/engagement/motivation
  • Active involvement in recruitment processes and onboarding process
  • Delivery and Agile Process.
  • Help delivery team define/refine its agile process
  • Ensure team follows agreed processes
  • Facilitate technical meetings and discussions
  • Continuous improvement. Improve what we're building and how we're building it in alignment with our goals for delivery, quality, client focus and simplicity.
  • Push boundaries. Question the norms and take calculated risks to achieve innovation, simplicity and client value.
  • What you'll need to succeed in the role:

  • Great communication. Able to communicate, visualize and convey succinctly and with clarity technical roadmaps, visions, architectures and designs. Does not dictate and knows how to keep others engagement and involved.
  • Constant desire to improve where it counts. Improve where will it matter most, assessing the benefit, how you and the team will be better off. Be at the forefront of technology and understand where we could use it, but more importantly where we should use it.
  • Concentrate on architecture and design. Get that right first.

  • What experience you bring to the team:

  • Prior experience in a technical leadership position
  • 5+ years’ experience as a Software Developer (preferably several years of backend development)
  • Extensive experience designing and developing enterprise applications
  • Strong experience developing and implementing technical best practices
  • Implemented Continuous Delivery processes
  • Hands-on AWS experience desirable
