  • Build internal-facing products that underpin our mission to improve the health of everyone in Australia
  • Be part of a health tech startup at the start of a new phase of growth
  • Own your product, end-to-end, from executive priorities to real world patient outcomes

HotDoc is on a mission to improve the health care experience for everyone in Australia. As a Business Operations Software Engineer, you will use modern software engineering practices to evolve HotDoc's operations infrastructure, tailor tools for your colleagues, and ultimately allow HotDoc to improve more Australians’ health care, sooner.

This position requires a combination of software development, process design, process automation, and DevOps skills.

Reporting to the Head of Operations, and working with a team of software engineers & operations analysts, you are empowered to own your projects from end to end. You will collaborate directly with our internal departments — your users — to design and build technical outcomes that better our business. These outcomes may range from optimising the configuration of existing business tooling, to deploying & maintaining new open source tools, to building custom applications from scratch. Examples of past projects have included:

  • Creating an automated pipeline for monitoring and remediating revenue leakage in the sales funnel
  • Developing workflows in HubSpot to link back-end product usage with front-end actions by Customer Success Managers
  • Accelerating business growth by creating a toolkit for sourcing and prioritizing new business opportunities

Requirements

Who can apply?

This permanent ongoing full-time role is based in Melbourne, but is open to remote candidates within 3 hours’ time difference of Melbourne (e.g. Perth to New Zealand) as long as you have a good internet connection and are willing to be flown to Melbourne approximately four times per year for two weeks at a time (pandemic permitting).

What you must have

  • 2+ years experience in Python, Ruby, JavaScript, or similar languages, working in a healthy, modern engineering culture
  • Experience in improving business processes with technical solutions
  • Experience with modern development practices, including unit testing, CI/CD, and git flow
  • Motivated to be involved in planning and specifying the work you go on to implement and iterate on
  • Broad analytical and problem solving skills

What we’d love you to have

  • Familiarity with data systems & query languages such as Postgres, SQL, and Google BigQuery
  • Familiarity with a modern devops-driven environment, e.g. using Buildkite to deploy containerised apps to a kubernetes cluster running in AWS
  • An allergy to "Not Invented Here syndrome" — you have the wisdom to know when to solve a problem with a custom app, when to customise an existing tool, and when to just use a spreadsheet

Benefits

We offer a market salary with startup perks. You’ll get to experience your contribution to the company first hand. Enjoy flexible work arrangements while thriving in an ethically driven company that fosters inclusivity and a collaborative work environment. We are well funded, and the next few years at HotDoc will be an exciting time of rapid growth, with plenty of scope for professional and personal development.
