Accountable for the introduction and maintenance of the processes and systems used in the manufacture of Advanced Navigations Products. The Head of Production Engineering acts as a conduit between both Engineering and Production and is responsible for the controlled handover of all new products into Production.

Role Responsibilities

  • Manage the Production Engineering Function across multiple production facilities
  • Enable Advanced Navigation to meet its Production targets by introducing and maintaining effective and efficient production systems and processes and removing technical blockers.  
  • Provide expert guidance and Production technical expertise to both the Production and R&D Teams.
  • Keep up to date on advancements in engineering and production, and share findings with the relevant teams
  • Oversee the process by which production failures are managed, reported, investigated and resolved.  
  • Oversee the technical process by which Customer Returns are managed, reported, investigated and resolved 
  • Assist and support the Head of Production to drive continuous improvement and change in the Production Team
  • Identifying systemic Production quality issues, consulting with internal Subject Matter Experts, troubleshooting and advising the Production Team on technical process improvements together with R&D;
  • Reviewing change proposals, reviewing design changes and implementing changes to process as required;
  • Be the authority for the transition of new products & production requirements into Production; 
  • Work with R&D Project Managers to plan R&D deliverables for the hand over to production and provide feedback;
  • Standardising and overseeing the processes for the Inspection of the first Production batch of new or modified components or assemblies;
  • Verification of Production Jigs and Equipment designed by R&D before production acceptance;
  • Provision of production expertise to R&D for high level assembly process design;
  • Provision of input to Design for Manufacture reviews during product development, including failure mode and effects analysis (FMEAs);
  • Finalisation of work instructions (including revisions), working together with the relevant Subject Matter Expert in R&D.
  • Measure, Monitor and Report Production Quality KPIs weekly. 
  • Ensure the root cause of missed KPIs is analysed and feedback is shared with key stakeholders rapidly
  • Support the development of our Quality Systems (especially QA/QC) to meet Advanced Navigation's production quality targets
  • Support the Head of Production to ensure the consistency of production controls across Advanced Navigation's production facilities
  • Engage Senior leadership and key stakeholders when additional resources and/or support is required
  • Qualifications, Skills and Experience

  • 5+ years in a similar position
  • Experience in a similar or another complex engineering industry
  • Capable of upskilling quickly to develop deep technical capabilities in a challenging technical domain
  • Able to work collaboratively with a variety of stakeholders across the business, including R&D Engineers, Production Technicians, and Head of Departments.
  • FAI and Verification & Validation (V&V) experience Experience with PCB electronics design, testing and troubleshooting 
  • Strong, efficient communicator, written and verbal
  • Well developed, structured problem solving and debugging skills
  • Strong attention to detail with an ability to provide accurate technical documentation
  • Experience planning and scheduling your own work
  • Be highly motivated with an energetic, responsive and decisive disposition;
  • Strong knowledge of WHS practices;
  • Proven high standard of attention to detail, time management and “follow-through”. 
  • Familiarity with IPC-A-610 and ISO 9001:2015
  • Familiarity with an ERP tool, such as Microsoft Dynamics, Salesforce or SAP.
