Canva is an online platform that is available across the globe with millions of users worldwide. The Templates Team empowers our users to create stunningly beautiful content by beginning their journey with a perfect and easily customizable template design. 

As Canva has grown exponentially, so too have the templates that are used by customers and the number of designers who create these templates. The templates design team has more than doubled in the last 4 months and will continue to grow for the foreseeable future!

It is a fun, energetic and fast-paced team located across Sydney and Manila. Together we produce thousands of templates each month! 

About you

We’re after a go-getter who loves building teams, watching them grow, learning and then building more!

This is a left brain, meets right brain role, requiring both the ability to plan, organise and execute, along with a creative streak. Our teams are located around the world so we are looking for someone who can create processes that allow our teams to easily understand their briefs, resources, deadlines and deliverables whilst giving them the head space to create beautiful designs. You must love owning operational excellence with a design team that is ~80 people worldwide and likely to keep growing. 

They can balance the information that they have available to them and map out a path to clarity and execution. They can handle multiple priorities and know how to make trade-offs and communicate these trade-offs to stakeholders when needed.

This person will hate blockers and do everything to ensure design teams can create beautiful designs with no interruptions!

Comfort with ambiguity, you enjoy dealing with uncertain situations and are able to find solutions even without perfect precedents or direction. However, you are also very detail-oriented and thrive on an environment in which you’re juggling many tasks/vendors simultaneously. You are passionate about technology and consumer-internet companies, ideally Canva or design software companies.

What you'll be doing 

  • We have a busy studio with 10+ teams and we’re keen to develop a holistic strategy with the right tooling and processes to keep to our timelines. Develop a standardised way to track projects and capacity
  • Day-to-day management of the Canva Creative team and task/project workflow.
  • Effective planning, briefing and distributing workload to the creative team.
  • Flag where capacity will be a concern using automated tooling
  • Develop a standardised way to run projects and comms to enforce it
  • Liaise with external engineering and SEO teams to coordinate external resources and requests needed to hit deadlines
  • Transition people between squads as needs ramp up and down between teams
  • Own and drive escalating recruitment issues to resolution
  • Lead the development and recruitment of creatives for an exciting new project

Experience you'll need 

  • 6+ years of creative studio and operations experience in related field with in-house creative studio or agency
  • Traffic management experience, preferably with a remote team. Able to talk to project management tools, resource planning and digital asset management with experience building processes and systems for scale
  • You are passionate about design and the design process.
  • Proven experience of effectively managing large-scale projects from brief through to delivery
  • You live for organising work and teams and you get the most out of the teams you work with
  • You specialise in bringing clarity to chaos
  • You can handle ambiguity
  • You have a strong sense of urgency when it comes to unblocking teams 
  • You are good with people and can handle conversations where you’re negotiating timelines and priorities
  • Strong communication skills when talking to creative ideas with your team; empathy with creatives
