Atlassian is continuing to hire with all interviewing and on-boarding done virtually due to COVID-19. All new and existing Atlassians will continue to work from home until it’s safe to return to our offices. When our offices re-open, we will provide the choice to work from home or return to work in an office unless a job requirement makes it necessary for a particular role to be performed at an Atlassian office.

What we are looking for

Are you a passionate collaborative design leader with experience leading strong design teams, a love of visual design language and systems thinking? Do you have experience crafting complex, large-scale design systems? We have an awesome opportunity for you: we're searching for a Design Manager to join and lead one of our pivotal teams in Sydney, Australia.

Our design system includes guidelines and reusable components, enables teams to create simple, intuitive, and beautiful experiences. Our design language is the backbone of the work done by everyone in the company allowing our product teams to move fast and allow our users to move work forward using familiar components across every product touchpoint.

As Design Manager for Atlassian Design System, you will:

  • Work closely with cross-functional product teams that deliver experiences across the Atlassian Cloud product suite — Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Trello, to name a few
  • Lead a team of talented Product and Content Designers to craft the best building blocks, guidelines and standards
  • Work closely with our brand team to ensure a familiar, branded end-to-end experience at every customer touchpoint.
  • Be a strategic partner of the system's leadership team, working closely with Engineering to define product strategy and roadmap.
  • Provide trusted direction and guidance for the critical initiatives that define the Atlassian experience, like design-tokens, theming, accessibility, and other cross-product experiences.
  • Lead, inspire and grow a high-performing team of designers across Australia and the US. With a passion for developing others, you'll coach and inspire your team towards success and cohesion.
  • Love a fast-paced, agile environment and have excellent project management skills.
  • To be successful in this role, we'd expect you to have:

  • Experience leading and managing a design team.
  • Minimum of 3 years working either on or with a design system
  • Systems thinking and a strong passion for working with (and simplifying) complex design systems that span multiple products.
  • More about our benefits

Whether you work in an office or a distributed team, Atlassian is highly collaborative and yes, fun! To support you at work (and play) we offer some fantastic perks: ample time off to relax and recharge, flexible working options, five paid volunteer days a year for your favourite cause, an annual allowance to support your learning & growth, unique ShipIt days, a company paid trip after five years and lots more.
