Engineering Team Lead

As an Engineering Team Lead at Assignar, you are responsible for driving a highly performant and healthy team as well as coaching its members.

The team you will be joining is a brand new one! You will be the first hire and will play a huge role in shaping it. Your team mission will be to reduce the time to value for our new customers by delivering a great user experience for onboarding and beyond, leveraging automation and data. You will also own the quantities tracking domain which will unlock some new markets.

People responsibilities

  • Assist with hiring for your team
  • Contribute in gathering feedback for annual reviews of the members of your team
  • Onboard new team members and mentoring of engineers
  • Involve sprintly or weekly 1:1’s with team members where you will provide coaching and goal setting

Technical responsibilities

  • We are looking for someone with a Senior-level experience across the full stack
  • Experience building complex SaaS applications
  • Over 3 years of back-end experience with in-depth knowledge of a server based framework
  • Over 3 years experience of JavaScript and using a modern front-end framework
  • Strong understanding of SQL and NoSQL databases
  • Practical programming skills allowing you to debug complex problems
  • A continuous learner who loves to work with cutting edge technologies, welcoming change and enjoys working in a dynamic environment
  • Motivated to share knowledge and best-practices to improve others’ abilities around them
  • Our technical stack includes GraphQL, Python/Django, ReactJS, TypeScript, NodeJS, Apollo, infrastructure as code on AWS services, Domain Driven Design, CI/CD with feature toggle, Ionic React

Team Work & Operations

  • You are responsible for making sure that the team is operating within an effective agile framework. You work with other team leads and the VP of Engineering on that
  • You work closely with product management in speccing, estimating and planning work for your team
  • The team’s agile ceremonies (stand-ups, retros etc) need to happen smoothly and it’s your responsibility to make sure that’s the case. You don’t have to run them yourself, but you do need to make sure they happen and are run effectively
  • You will set-up and follow-up on team goals as well as working closely with the VP of Engineering to establish and use meaningful metrics (health, pulse, agile) that will help monitor and improve your team’s day-to-day behaviour and output
  • Maintain an open discussion and visibility about in progress and future initiatives
  • Wear whatever hat is needed for the team to be productive
  • This isn’t a hands-off role. You’re still coding 50-70% of your time (this may vary)
