Whats the role?
You’ll contribute to the technical vision of Xero and assist our teams to bring that vision to life in their work, enabling teams to ship high-quality features quickly with confidence and accuracy.
You will help define and communicate a clear technical direction to delivery teams, ensuring they understand and align with our technical goals. You'll guide the implementation of products based on sound engineering practices, balancing long-term direction with current needs.
What you'll do...
Communicate current architectural direction to the delivery teamsFacilitate sessions to determine technical and architectural direction of the product(s) and systemsWork closely with the Technical Group Lead to define and prioritise the technical roadmapLead systems engineering and introduce architectural patterns and practices into the delivery teamsCollaborate with the delivery teams to introduce and champion development patterns and practicesWork within the context of a pod to assist in complex development activitiesBuild a relationship with other technical leaders in the businessAs required, participate in interviews and assess potential technical candidatesProactively bring new ideas into XeroMake complex technical concepts understandable for non-technical stakeholdersAssist pods in identifying and exposing technical debt and related issues for prioritisation and resolutionLead discussions to ensure we have the right tools for the job and help identify and propose any we need

Good understanding and experience measuring and designing for non-functional requirements, like reliability, availability, security and performanceAbility to create, articulate, mentor and advocate the vision and technical and semantic direction for a product's and systems architectureGood stakeholder management and interpersonal skillsAbility to articulate business and technical problems to both technical and non-technical audiencesSuperior analytical, evaluative, and problem-solving abilities.Good time management and prioritisation skillsSystem administration experienceGood understanding of AWSDemonstrated ability to envision large-scale web-based services that meet consumer customer/stakeholder needs or solve business problemsFamiliar with multiple software development methodologies and stylesFamiliarity with information security vulnerabilities and risk managementFamiliarity with consumer privacy and payments industry compliance requirements
