The Opportunity

Sitting within the Customer Science & Strategy team, the purpose of this role is to partner with the Trade Optimisation lead as well as key representatives in Sales, Marketing and Media teams in order to identify growth opportunities and how to take advantage of them, as well as foreseeing risks to deliver against budget and how to mitigate them.This will help Afterpay ‘Win with Customers’ and ‘Scale Actionable Insights’ through world class data & insight, with a focus on action and driving outcomes. 

The key focus for the role is to use data to better understand our customers, merchants and market, and develop actionable insights that our Sales & Marketing teams can use to drive increased performance across marketing and sales activities. In Trade, we move at a rapid pace, and this role is focused on providing timely actionable insights on business performance, deep diving into challenges and opportunities.

A key remit of the role will be to provide strategic trade support in peak trade campaign analysis (e.g. Afterpay Day, Cyber weekend, Christmas) as well as ad hoc deep dives, with a focus on actionable outcomes to help inform the strategic direction of the business. We need to position Afterpay as a customer and data led organisation – the best in the BNPL industry – and one that helps its partners become smarter, data-driven and customer focused.

Our success will be measured by growing share of wallet among our customers and, in turn, the accretive value delivered to Merchants and Afterpay. Whilst technically proficient, you will have a strong commercial lens and be able to identify trends and opportunities within the data. You will deliver data driven business insights for decision making, with the ability to communicate findings into a customer focused narrative.

  • This role will deeply be embedded within the business in understanding and analysing our performance, the drivers and barriers
  • Provide actionable insights and recommendations to drive business results
  • Help advise on how we apply learnings moving forward 
  • Ability to turn around analyses at speed to report back to the business
  • Help support on hypotheses testing that come out of trade meetings
  • Support on strategic trade initiatives on key trading periods
  • Ensure repeatable, scalable processes in place where relevant 
  • Develop a formalised process to identify, analyse, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets, empower informed decision making for stakeholders

  • You’ll have a passion for working with customer and loyalty data with a proven track record of delivering actionable insights, recommendations and measurable growth
  • Quantitative background in statistics, mathematics, computer science, or related disciplinesAbility to do statistical analyses with minimal guidance including descriptive and inferential techniques and to apply those to real business problems
  • 3+ years experience with sales & marketing analytics techniques such as Customer Profiling, Predictive Modelling, Regression and classification analyses, A/B testing, etc.
  • Proficient in SQL/ Tableau and / or other BI tools 
  • Strong organisational/time management skills and ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment sometimes with competing priorities. The ability to turn around analyses at speed
  • Solid project management skills, with the ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously and to tight deadlines
  • Deep analytical mindset and strong problem solving skills with the ability to think critically, combined with effective judgment and communication skills
  • Ability to translate complex ideas and insight into a customer focused narrative that drives actionable recommendations
  • Ideally 3+ years experience working in a B2C organisation e.g. Retail, Travel, Telco, Retail Banking
