Xero is a beautiful, easy-to-use platform that helps small businesses and their accounting and bookkeeping advisors grow and thrive.

At Xero, our purpose is to make life better for people in small business, their advisors, and communities around the world. This purpose sits at the centre of everything we do. We support our people to do the best work of their lives so that they can help small businesses succeed through better tools, information and connections. Because when they succeed they make a difference, and when millions of small businesses are making a difference, the world is a more beautiful place.

About the team:
The Data team is responsible for driving the adoption of data-driven decision making across Xero - for both our internal users and our global audience of small business owners, bookkeepers and accountants. We create, manage and deliver a wide range of data services including core reporting, key data dimensions, extensible and scalable analytical data processing and storage facilities, machine learning toolsets, frameworks and API driven prediction services.

We are a centre of expertise for data architecture, data modelling, machine learning, ethical data usage and artificial intelligence service design. We lead the effort to raise the data and AI literacy levels across Xero with a particular focus on the product management and engineering cohorts globally.

About the role:
Our vision is to collaboratively build #beautiful, #datasavvy, trustworthy, and insightful data products that empower our internal and external business partners to discover and act on what matters. Whether it’s by delivering timely insights, or automations that remove toil, we seek to deliver products that help our partners thrive. Developing a deep understanding of our partners and customers is vital.

You’ll also play a central role in building relationships across the Data Team and with our Xero Partners with whom we build data products. Xero’s growth agenda is bold and ambitious — as a Snr. Product Manager you need to co-develop a roadmap with technical specialists in Data Enrichment, Data Governance, Data Platforms, Data Applications Engineering, and Applied Sciences that maximises outcomes for our customers, partners, and Xero.

What you'll do:

  • Deeply understand the relevant problem spaces and be the champion of the ‘what’ and the ‘why’ across the organisation, developing strong and productive relationships with diverse stakeholders to achieve a balance over conflicting needs and priorities

  • Have a clear understanding of Xero’s strategic priorities and how the portfolio of products / platforms / services in your stewardship align and contribute to it. Be a strong, pragmatic and articulate advocate for the required investment to make the vision of that contribution a reality
  • Be accountable for the ongoing operational and commercial success of the capabilities you co-create and/or are responsible for
  • Co-own with the technical leads, the translation of the product planning and requirements for new features, enhancements and bug fixes into an achievable and balanced roadmap
  • Contribute to and take accountability for the creation and maintenance of digestible and comprehensive product/platform capabilities and services documentation.
  • Ensure appropriate customer feedback loops and product discovery practices are in place to uncover customer needs and new product value propositions in line with the portfolio vision
  • Actively seek out metrics to validate a hypothesis and measure results, and make sure you and the rest of the team are equipped to make good decisions based on evidence that is logical and testable.
  • Work closely with colleagues in Data and with our Product teams, to define, establish and evangelise the adoption of best practice processes and approaches for data / ML product and service development
  • Remain up to date with relevant trends and supporting technologies and continually consider how they may benefit Xero
  • Cultivate a safe, fun, rewarding, agile and results-driven culture that lives and breathes our Xero values
  • Attract, retain, develop and motivate exceptional talent
  • What you'll need:

  • Ability to set and manage expectations across a diverse group of Product teams that consume our data insights
  • Ability to work with engineers and architects to understand technical considerations and distil the product and customer impacts
