About the position

This role is accountable for engaging with business and technical stakeholders to define functional and technical requirements of prioritised initiatives and translate them into the scrum framework of epics and stories for the development sprint rhythms. It is embedded into one of our development teams, and is supported by Product Owners who own the initiatives and will share scrum master responsibilities with the development team lead.

When not working on immediate sprint backlogs, the role will actively support Product Owners with requirement definition, business process mapping and technical impact analyses of both strategic and continuous improvement initiatives. Having a background in the financial sector is preferred, as it owns the functional success of the delivered initiatives across our Lending and Payments portfolios.

We are looking for someone with strong Agile skills in story writing, story mapping techniques and well-versed in running sprint ceremonies who can potentially mentor and lead junior members of the team as the need arises. Good influencing skills, ability to steer group conversations towards an outcome and demonstrating a positive attitude to stumbling blocks will win you a lot of brownie points with us.

Key responsibilities

  • You will translate high-level design of initiatives into detailed requirements through process maps, journey maps and break down large-scale initiatives into their component Epics and User Stories
  • Working closely with the team leads, architects, product owner, development team, designers and the UX team you will ensure there is a shared understanding of requirements across the board
  • You will be accountable for the success of Story Refinement sessions and Sprint Planning sessions through well-defined and well-prioritised User Stories
  • You will own the sprint composition for each development sprint, in collaboration with the Product Owners of the initiatives in play, and the team lead, to prioritise the technical activities within the sprint
  • You will support the technical leads during active sprints to ensure all assets, specifications and design collateral are made available in time.
  • You will create end-to-end test cases for delivery and coordinate User Acceptance Testing with QA and tech leads to ensure the overall functional success of the initiative
  • You will contribute towards preparing material and providing training and assistance to end-users following implementation.

About you

  • You have spent 5+ years expertly capturing business and technical requirements into  perfectly written User Stories for development teams
  • You have done so in a true Agile delivery environment and can prove this with a comprehensive understanding of the scrum methodology that you have gained by working with scrum development teams
  • Your Agile skills in story writing, user journey mapping techniques and running sprint ceremonies are enviable and worth emulating by others around you
  • You have a strong technical background with a good understanding of APIs, back-end architecture and third-party integration
  • You have depth of  experience in the financial sector, particularly in lending or payments domains
  • You can draw up both high-level process design and detailed user journey maps with equal dexterity
  • You demonstrate a good balance of technical and commercial aptitude, and can bring about an informed decision from a group of technical people with differing opinions
  • You have trained yourself to derive decisions around ambiguity and have adopted flexible approach to managing competing priorities

We don’t know it all. We’re not looking for someone who does. But you’ll need to be prepared to roll your sleeves up, be curious, and keep pushing until you’ve found the boundary. We don’t believe in perfect, but we do believe in testing, learning, and asking more questions than any of us had thought of to start with.

We’re a quirky bunch, we love a good laugh, and we’re not afraid to face a challenge head on. No two of us are alike, so to fit in, you’ll need a good dose of different.
