About the role

You will develop software for mobile products on the Android Development platform. You’ll continually drive delivery and continuous product improvement.

Every day will bring different challenges, but the key areas of your job will be to develop a deep understanding of the business domain that will help the team to build quality software and deliver customer.

You'll work closely with a collaborate team to prototype, build, and test high quality apps; Identifying shortcomings in current technology / architecture and recommend solutions.
We're looking for people who relish the chance to help grow those around them, through constructive input into architectural decisions and technical guidance & mentoring to other developers; Staying up to date and keeping a finger on the pulse of Google & Android's ever-evolving development technologies, identifying and promoting opportunities to make use of these technologies within the mobile team.


What you'll bring with you

  • Technical excellence in software engineering, including SOLID principles, XP/pairing, TDD, domain driven design
  • High coding standards and an emphasis on unit testing
  • Experience in developing software that is secure, performant and scalable
  • Experience with agile methodologies
  • Experience using and keeping up with latest Android development trends
  • Kotlin and Java proficiency
  • Knowledge and experience working with MVVM and clean architecture environments
  • Passion for building positive team culture
  • Open communication style
  • Building effective relationships
  • An eye for detail and passion for good UI/UX
  • This will be a mostly remote role, what does that mean for you and what are the expectations for the team and Xero?

    We need people to take accountability for maintaining ways of working and a strong team social culture whilst not being in the same physical space; 
    We need people who are open to semi-regular travel to a common location at least once a quarter, and our product hub in Melbourne for major events.
