About the role: 

The Programme Director role has been created to lead critical programmes and projects from concept through to delivery and benefit realisation. Coordinating the delivery of multiple work streams and projects, rapid project start up, world class delivery and robust operational management are critical to ensuring we meet our objectives. 

This role will be the conduit between Xero’s Executive Leadership Team, the Programme, project and governance teams, and be responsible for the overall planning, scoping, and resourcing of projects to deliver the Programme objectives. The Programme Director will ensure the project teams utilise appropriate delivery methodologies, frameworks and processes to deliver the programme successfully. 

Key to the success of this role will be the ability to apply fit-for-purpose structure and process and a flexible approach. You will work with a wide range of stakeholders and teams that work in different ways, and have the ability to build and maintain strong relationships with those stakeholders and teams. You will own the company-wide engagement and commitment to delivering the outcome and benefits of the programme, by being a strong advocate, owning and selling the outcome and benefits, keeping stakeholders engaged, updated and on board with progress.  

What you'll do:

  • Lead the overall strategy and direction of the Data Savvy Xero programme working closely with the EGM of Data and the Data leadership team
  • Shape and deliver the programme communications strategy including collation and simplification of detailed programme plans to senior leadership 
  • Establish, lead and chair the programme governance group acting as the key liaison between Xero’s Executive Leadership Team (XLT), Board, governance/steering groups, senior leadership and programme/project sponsor/s
  • Direct leadership and mentoring of the central programme team, support and influential leadership of the wider delivery teams across the programme
  • Review and manage overall programme risks and be accountable for overall programme success and outcomes
  • Lead the development of initiatives and projects into structured programmes 
  • Ensure projects within the programme are suitably resourced 
  • Vendor recruitment and management where required
  • Be a part of recruitment, staff induction and training where required
  • Embrace and champion the programme and projects within the programme and drive the delivery of the change to a high standard
  • Travel as required, most likely trans-Tasman and within AU/NZ only. 
  • What you'll bring with you:

  • Experience working within a modern software company and understand SaaS models and principles
  • You have lead high-profile, complex transformational programmes of work and projects
  • 10+ years experience leading and delivering multiple projects and programmes
  • You have a natural ability to influence and can bring demonstrated examples of exemplary stakeholder management to C level / senior leadership. 
  • Strategic vendor management
  • Experience as part of, or leading Governance groups.
