So, with that in mind, we are looking for a new Chief Technology Officer to join our team of go-getters and realise the full value of their skills!

What you'll do:

  • Develop a strategy and framework for allocating resources effectively in line with vision, in a way that motivates and inspires team members while delivering on objectives of the business
  • Ensure existing, and new, technologies are used efficiently, profitably, and securely
  • Foster a strong Engineering culture by providing guidance and leadership around norms for high-quality engineering at Airtasker
  • Provide high-quality coaching and people management to direct reports (Engineering Directors) and draw on the strengths of team managers to be responsive to the organisation’s needs
  • Form a clear vision for Engineering at Airtasker and communicate this strategy internally, including the board, and externally where appropriate
  • Oversee budget management and statutory obligations of the Engineering function, including security, data protection and compliance reporting
  • Ensure strategic staffing needs are met with budget efficiency
  • Maintain high levels of motivation by clearly tying the work of Engineering teams to the company’s mission and strategy
  • Collaborate effectively with cross-functional peers to ensure that there is alignment and harmonisation in how the functions work together and define goals
  • Collaborate with People Operations on the end to end people experience
  • What it takes to be successful in the role:

  • Deep knowledge of modern software engineering, and product development, best practices
  • Knowledge of Cloud and distributed software architecture principles, and expertise on security and technical risk management 
  • Exceptional understanding on the technical operational requirements for a publicly listed digital product organisation
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to present a Engineering vision confidently in a way that motivates others both internally and externally
  • Skill with organisational leadership (managing managers, designing an org chart) and growing talent at senior and leadership levels
  • Experience with building software at scale (both technically and organisationally)
  • Conversant with principles of modern people management and HR practices
  • Excellent collaboration skills with Product, Design, Data functions (including a level of understanding of the purpose and practices of those functions)
  • Effective problem solver with a customer centric mindset and a strategic thinker to align Engineering efforts to commercial company objectives 
  • Commercial understanding of budgets and business-planning
  • Deriving of satisfaction from investing in the growth and development of others
  • Pragmatic and outcome-oriented to Engineering planning
