Because you should have the opportunity to make an impact on a business and in doing so, carve out the career you are passionate about. Joining Plenti is taking control of your personal growth and choosing to work with some of the best and brightest minds. It is accepting that industry change is inevitable and it's better to be the one driving it than it is to be trying to catch up.
With this mindset we've come a long way in a few years… achieving things like: winning over 30 awards for positively changing how people access finance; helping over 15,000 households install solar on their roofs; increasing our lending by over 100% over the last year; and adding >50 new staff to the team over the past year.
Our ambitions are huge and we've only just begun...
Who are we?
We come from a diverse range of backgrounds, both professionally and personally. We are always open to new ideas and believe success comes through collaboration and challenging ideas. We are passionate about what we do but believe that for one to truly foster this passion you have to look after yourself as well.
What is Plenti?
Plenti is a fast-growing fintech, helping its customers achieve their life goals by delivering fast and fair automotive, renewable energy and personal loans. Plenti is on a mission to be Australia’s best lender.
What’s the role?
Plenti Legal Finance is a specialist team that focuses solely on providing loans for people going through divorce and separation to pay their legal fees. We have a strong focus on access to justice and we provide people with the ability to pay their lawyer when they otherwise cannot. We believe everyone has a right to access legal advice, and we’re tackling this problem in a way nobody has done before. This team is growing rapidly as we continue to build more trusted relationships with lawyers across the country. As a result, we're looking for a Junior Family Lawyer to work as a Legal Finance Associate with our partner law firms and their clients to assess cases and make lending decisions. You will be working closely with borrowers and lawyers to understand the complexities of cases and assess them against lending criteria and responsible lending obligations. This role is perfect for a former or current lawyer who is interested in staying in the legal profession and utilising their legal knowledge, but no longer wishes to practice law every day. It is suited to someone wanting to move away from billable hours into a more commercial and finance role to make business decisions based on legal knowledge. Importantly, you should be someone who is considerate of others, helpful, and kind, with a blend of skills including commercial acumen, legal knowledge, customer service, strong communication, and common sense.
Some of your day-to-day responsibilities
Working with borrowers and lawyers to understand the complexities of cases in order to complete loan applications, and to assess legal circumstances against risk management, lending criteria and responsible lending obligations. Managing compliance on current applications, as well as monitoring risk across the existing loan book. Develop relationships with our growing network of lawyers and practice managers nationally, and provide education and support to them so they can be of greater assistance to their clients. Speaking to customers (both potential, and current) via phone and email to handle general inquiries and regular updates through the life cycle of our loans.
Working closely with the rest of the Legal Finance team, as well as other internal teams within Plenti to support a growing function, to progress loan applications, and to help manage the existing loan book through to successful repayment and loan closure.
To be great at this
Family Law legal experience is essential, with preference given to 1 to 3-years post admission. Ideally suited to a former or current family lawyer looking to remain connected to the law, but no longer in a legal capacity, and who wants to gain broader experience in a commercial role in finance and relationship management .. Finance and customer service experience will be valued but is not mandatory. The role may also suit someone with significant paralegal or other legal experience with exposure to family law principles. The role is not a legal role requiring a current practicing certificate, however, there may be an option to maintain this as part of the role if desired. Key attributes are excellent written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, initiative, and a desire to provide excellent, professional service to our borrowers and law firm partners.
