About the role:

The Xero Payroll team exists to make it simple for small businesses everywhere to pay their people correctly and with confidence. Payroll is a meaningful connection point between employers and employees, it’s where effort meets reward; but managing payroll is stressful, the rules are complicated and mistakes can have large repercussions.

The team comprises talented product management, engineering, design and regulatory experts with a passion for helping small businesses succeed. Today we offer payroll solutions into many markets across the globe making the portfolio a key contributor to business success, but it is also a strategically critical part of Xero's future story.

This role oversees the largest product in our portfolio today - AU Payroll. A significant percentage of all employed Australian's are paid through our platform every month, making it highly visible from a commercial and regulatory point of view. Our team is on a journey to break the accepted industry norm and reinvent what it means for a small business to pay their people.

What you'll do:

  • Understand customer problems and be the champion of the ‘what’ and the ‘why’. Delivering value through defining, driving and executing a product roadmap that realises Xero’s vision and objectives and ensures the success of the product. 
  • Know the payments industry and be a subject matter expert in delivering payments solutions to Xero customers globally. 
  • Bridge technical and business worlds as you lead strong and productive relationships with global stakeholders to deliver on market needs and priorities, and evangelise the product vision. 
  • Work with product marketing, data and research teams to drive feature penetration and undertake competitive research to uncover customer needs and new product value propositions in line with the payments team’s vision. 
  • Work closely with engineering to deliver quality software with amazing user experiences that solve real customer problems.

  • What you'll have:

  • Previous experience as a Product Manager and demonstrable experience collaborating with a diverse stakeholder group to realise commercial outcomes.
  • Strong knowledge of the payroll domain. If you have experience within single touch payroll it will be highly advantageous
  • The ability to break down complex problems, deliver real-world business outcomes and handle changing priorities
  • Extensive experience working with software development projects at scale
  • A solid track record of addressing customer needs through innovative use of technology
  • Proven ability to influence outcomes at all levels in a variety of contexts
  • Demonstrated experience in defining product roadmaps and long term planning
  • You are a seasoned leader and can demonstrate your ability to build effective relationships across all levels of the business while maintaining diplomacy and drive
