About the Position:

We're growing. Fast. Our global expansion necessitates a talented Site Reliability Engineer to help optimise and improve our globally expanding AWS-based service.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Using SRE approaches to improve our services for customers and other teams
  • Working collaboratively with developers, devops engineers, test engineers and other SMEs to understand our product’s performance and to identify improvement opportunities
  • Participation in solution design and architecture discussions, in collaboration with other SMEs
  • Participation in secondary on-call rotation to support trouble resolution during non-business hours and support for disaster recovery/ business continuity efforts as required

Development and Delivery

  • Contribute to technical and functional design, and take ownership of improvements
  • Identify system deficiencies and implement solutions with a consistent leaning towards “shift-left” and automation
  • Assist with platform maintenance and client support tasks where needed

Organisational

  • Adhere to operational procedures such as time keeping, task allocation, status reporting
  • Actively contribute to internal programs

Professional Development

  • Be knowledgeable and ‘up to date’ with domain knowledge including industry trends, technologies, frameworks and techniques
  • Be knowledgeable and ‘up to date’ with Whispir products
  • Proactively seek opportunities to broaden and deepen knowledge base and proficiencies
  • Share acquired skills and knowledge of competitor or complementary products with the team

About You:

Even if you don't meet this criteria perfectly but believe you have lots to bring to the role, we encourage you to apply. We know it’s tough, but please try to avoid the confidence gap - you don’t have to match all the listed requirements exactly to be considered for this role.

You must have:

  • Experience with automation or scripting in a Linux environment
  • Understanding of SRE approaches and how to implement them in practice
  • Experience building and running services in Amazon Web Services or similar environment
  • Proven full-stack troubleshooting skills, with a strong focus on performance, scalability, root cause analysis and remediation

You should have:

  • Awareness of JVM and Java configuration and fault-finding
  • Knowledge of software deployment patterns and processes, and building CI/CD pipelines
  • Working knowledge of a programming language 
  • Skills with Configuration Management and Infrastructure as Code tools. Preferably Ansible, Packer, Terraform, Kubernetes, and Docker
  • Expert skills in Linux and Linux internals
  • Experience supporting infrastructure or platform services in a customer-facing operational environment 

You ideally have:

  • Excellent knowledge of troubleshooting Java and JVM issues
  • Extensive experience of building environments in AWS
  • Knowledge of best practices for implementing security and compliance controls in cloud environments
  • Experience working with virtualization in an on-premise environment
  • Experience defining Service Level Objectives as availability targets
