Due to ongoing growth, we are seeking a Head of Technology DD & Integration who is passionate about driving inorganic growth in the enterprise SaaS space!

In this role, you will lead the critical Technology due diligence and integration aspects of M&A transactions of all shapes and sizes. You will act as the conduit between the Global Corporate Development, Integration Management Office, Strategic Partnerships teams, and the Global Technology function, ensuring any potential strategic partnership, merger or acquisitions are fully considered from a technology perspective. 

You will be responsible for shaping up and driving the delivery of multiple work-streams and M&A projects, with a technical focus. You will meet your objectives through rapid engagement, world class delivery and robust technical and operational management. You will work closely with Technology and Architecture leadership, and will be responsible for the overall planning, scoping, and resourcing of M&A workstreams.

What you'll do:

  • Lead cross-functional teams from the Technology Group to explore, evaluate, and recommend strategies and tactics to align corporate development and strategic partnership activities with our Technology Group operating model.
  • Support our corporate development and strategic partnership activities, including evaluating the impact on our technology, identifying the most attractive opportunities and ensuring Xero is positioned to win in the future.
  • Oversee the development of rigorous, fact-based, quantitative analysis to support recommendations which ensures strategic and financial soundness and alignment for any recommendations.
  • Play an active role in the recommendation of the level of integration with respect to the acquisition.  Decisions to be based on the overlap of customer base, the opportunity to further strengthen the Xero core proposition, the suitability and simplicity of integration and the variance in sales and service models.
  • Collaborate with architecture leaders and strategic business partners across our global teams in solving business problems, to make and support recommendations on pursuing and structuring business opportunities.
  • Support the Integration Management Office (IMO) on developing and implementing integration plans (as a wholly owned independent subsidiary, tightly integrated or anything in between) of acquired businesses and/or assets which impact our technology.  
  • Collate and communicate M&A plans and progress to senior leadership, monitoring the portfolio and pipeline of technical M&A targets (through collaboration with Corporate Development) to efficiently anticipate and plan for upcoming engagements.
  • Support the creation of materials for the Board of Directors and Executive Leadership to communicate on key market trends and strategic implications for Xero and our technology and partners.
  • Lead, coach and mentor Technology M&A team members.
  • Drive engagement across Technology teams to ensure the due diligence and integration phases of M&A activity are well planned, guided, proactive, methodical, and #human.
  • Drive the development of detailed due diligence and integration processes for our Technology teams; gather, review and validate information to provide sound advice about potential risks and considerations for each acquisition from a Technology perspective.
  • Work closely with change, comms and project teams to plan and identify scope of the M&A - including dependencies, timing and success measures.
  • Ensure our Technology teams and people leaders are set up to support the integration, and onboarding of new companies into Xero.
  • Shape and deliver a communications strategy and framework for M&A work across Technology, and feeding into Xero’s overall M&A workstreams.
  • Review, report and manage technical programme risks and ensure M&A work-streams are suitably resourced.
  • Develop repeatable processes where practicable to increase efficiency in M&A workstream delivery.
  • What you’ll bring with you:

  • Proven experience in a technical integration leadership role with a proven track record in development of customer value propositions, growing customer and partner segments, and meeting strategic and commercial outcomes.
  • Demonstrated success in prior roles helping companies make and execute choices that led to winning in their chosen domain, with a deep understanding of the SaaS and/or accounting and professional service industry preferred.
  • Ability to manage several concurrent projects of varying structures and types that lend a strategic perspective to immediate business opportunities.
  • Quick to establish close working relationships with individuals across all levels and effectively influence without authority
  • Strong leadership capability, influencing skills and stakeholder management, and experience as part of, or leading, governance groups. 
  • Good working technical knowledge of modern, SaaS architectures and operating models, with deep understanding of modern, lean engineering practices. 
  • Experience working with Executive and C level, demonstrated experience preparing / reporting to Board level. 
  • Experience with financial modelling and understanding valuation techniques for high-growth companies and have intimate knowledge of SaaS and SaaS metrics.
  • Extensive experience structuring and managing complex cross-enterprise projects and processes with multiple stakeholders. 
  • Experience working within a modern software company and understand SaaS models and principles.
