The Xero Payroll team are a talented and experienced group of humans based primarily across Australia and the UK. We are focused on making it simple for small businesses everywhere to pay their people correctly and with confidence.

The Xero Payroll team exists to make it simple for small businesses everywhere to pay their people correctly and with confidence. Payroll is a meaningful connection point between employers and employees - it’s where effort meets reward - but managing payroll is stressful, the rules are complicated and mistakes can have large repercussions. The team comprises talented product management, engineering, design and regulatory experts with a passion for helping small businesses succeed. Today we offer payroll solutions into many markets across the globe making the portfolio a key contributor to business success, but it is also a strategically critical part of Xero's future story.

This role is absolutely critical to the success of the product teams who manage the largest product in our portfolio today - AU Payroll. You will bring your deep subject matter expertise to bear on monitoring the payroll regulatory landscape, intercepting & communicating regulatory needs as clear recommendations, and raising the regulatory IQ of the overall team. A significant percentage of all employed Australian's are paid through our platform every month, making it highly visible from a commercial and regulatory point of view. Our team is on a journey to break the accepted industry norm and reinvent what it means for a small business to pay their people.

What you'll do:

  • Forge relationships and actively participate in the Australian payroll industry as well as global regulatory forums across Xero
  • Proactively monitor the regulatory landscape and maintain a clear view of the compliance horizon for product teams
  • Provide subject matter expertise to all parts of Xero on payroll legislation
  • Intercept, analyse and interpret regulatory changes and make recommendations for the product management team
  • Work closely with other compliance and regulatory experts throughout Xero
  • Raise the regulatory IQ of the product team through knowledge sharing and education
  • Ensure that the opportunities and impacts of regulatory compliance needs are reflected in our product vision and strategy
  • Continuously benchmark our products against current legislation and industry best practice
  • What you'll bring with you:

  • You have previous experience, knowledge and expertise within the Australian Regulatory environment and/or Single Touch Payroll
  • You have emotional intelligence and interpersonal skills that allow you to quickly build rapport, credibility and trust
  • You are a strong communicator who can translate complex information into digestible recommendations for a variety of audiences
