As Afterpay’s Legal Counsel, you’ll report to the Head of Legal ANZ, and will provide legal support to a variety of teams across the ANZ business. With a particular focus on our merchant sales and relationship management teams, you will be a senior member of the ANZ legal team, and a leader in your role.
Taking an active role in supporting our global merchant and revenue practice group, you will be responsible for leading on complex negotiations with our merchant partners and other third parties across a wide range of verticals.

● Drafting, negotiating and advising on merchant and partner contracts
● Working collaboratively with a range of internal and external stakeholders to support Afterpay’s growth while managing risk and compliance
● Implementing process improvements that assist the Legal team and other stakeholders
● Managing external legal advisers
● Reporting key legal metrics for the AU & NZ business
● Delivering training across the business as required

This role best suits a commercial lawyer who thrives in a dynamic environment. Previous in-house experience in a technology (or other business-to-business) sales-focused legal role will be highly regarded. The ideal candidate will be results-focused, commercially pragmatic and capable of managing multiple projects and competing deadlines. We are looking for someone who loves getting a deal done to help the growth of our business, and is adept at cutting through to what’s really important.
Our ideal candidate will have:
● 5+ years PQE and a valid practising certificate in Australia
● Commercial contract drafting and negotiating skills
● Comfort working independently and proactively in a fast-paced environment
● Excellent communication skills
● Confidence working on matters in which you may have limited or no expertise in
● A passion for consulting with other business units
● Some experience dealing with privacy matters
