Who we are

Nomad Atomics is on a mission to make the broad uptake of quantum sensing a reality and simultaneously push the limits of our field beyond what we think is possible. We are building the world’s most advanced fit-for-purpose quantum sensors to allow us to see the world like never before.

Our team is made up of leaders in the quantum sensing field. We believe the time for commercial quantum sensing has come, and we are determined to make it happen.

We are growing here at Nomad Atomics – FAST. We are searching for people who want to finally take the commercial sensing game into the modern era of technology.

Who you are

You are a voracious learner, and you love building things. You do not shy away from taking on the impossible. You apply these principles to all parts of science and engineering and are excited to operate at the forefront of technology development.  You are an expert in your field and are ready to jump headfirst into the strange world of quantum sensing.

It’s ok if you don’t have all the skills yet to build a quantum sensor, because you want to work with a global team of experts to fill in the gaps.  You embrace the idea of working in a fast-paced, highly iterative, and integrated team.

Your role

Working hand in hand with the co-founders, you’ll be responsible for the development of digital and analogue circuits for our field sensors. You will also contribute to all electronics and optical sub-systems of Nomad’s quantum sensors. This is an exceptionally hands-on role requiring a broad skill set, including general circuit design and prototyping, RF system development and the integration of FPGAs and SoCs. (These things are being used in the field, and we are moving fast.)

We are seeking an Electronics Engineer with excellent communication skills who can confidently collaborate with stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and business teams. The role requires the ability to ask insightful questions, clearly define and challenge requirements, and apply structured problem‑solving to make robust technical decisions. You will provide technical leadership, balance trade‑offs, and guide solutions from concept through to implementation.

You will be responsible for and deeply embedded in the end-to-end development and deployment of our sensors and will be engaged daily in tasks like:

  • Work with a team of physicists and engineers to develop field ready quantum sensors
  • Design, build and test custom PCBs for the mechanical, optical and electronic subsystems
  • Develop and maintain system level documentation
  • Work with manufacturing partners for timely prototype and series production
  • Debug and optimise subsystem and sensor performance in harsh environments
  • Guide the future technology strategy of Nomad Atomics and strengthen in-house electronics capabilities

Requirements

It’s not about where you have come from nor what qualifications you have. What truly matters is that you are a fast learner. The types of things people applying for this role have done prior to Nomad are things like:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in electrical, electronic or mechatronic engineering, or equivalent
  • 4+ years of relevant industry experience working in highly collaborative and fast-paced environments
  • Proficient with Altium, and LTSpice
  • Proven ability to take ownership, lead, and deliver complex electronics projects
  • Demonstrated track record with electronics troubleshooting and SMT-soldering
  • Extensive experience in schematic design, PCB layout, and prototyping for mixed-signal, low-noise, and high-speed analogue circuits, including RF stack-ups and impedance control
  • Proficiency in embedded firmware development, including Xilinx SoCs and Xilinx toolchain (e.g. Vivado), and common microcontroller families
  • Experience designing and working with RF / Microwave / Radar systems
  • Experience with power system design, battery operated devices, EMC testing, and device certifications
  • Experience with Jira, Git and Confluence or alternative agile task/documentation/code management

If you think you’re right for the role, but don’t have some of these skills, reach out – we’d love to talk anyway.

Benefits

The role is full-time and based in Melbourne, Australia. Applicants must have current Australian working rights (citizenship or permanent residency).

We have the flexibility to work from home from time to time, but mostly it’s getting your hands dirty in our shiny labs.

We offer a competitive salary, employee share option package and opportunities for professional growth and advancement.
