This role

As a Legal Counsel, you'll be working with the other members of our legal team who specialize in privacy, product, commercial, IP, employment, and corporate law. You will be instrumental in shaping our legal initiatives by managing and overseeing a broad legal portfolio.

Your key focus areas will be

• Working on our key business projects, including new platform features, new product offerings, and our expansion into new markets.
• Collaborating with the business on privacy compliance.
• Reviewing and drafting a variety of commercial agreements.

This will include

• Working on key business projects, from new platform features to new product offerings and our expansion into new markets.
• Collaborating with the business on our privacy compliance, including Privacy Impact Assessments and managing our third-party sub-processor list.
• Reviewing and drafting a variety of commercial agreements, including customer T&Cs, vendor agreements, SaaS agreements, NDAs, partnership agreements, and data processing agreements.
• Helping develop, implement, and support the continuous improvement of legal processes, AI systems, and templates.
• Monitoring the laws applicable to the business and supporting the legal team in its global privacy and AI compliance initiatives.
• Managing and developing compliance, incident, IP, and AI governance registers.
• Drafting and reviewing annual Modern Slavery Statements and supporting broader corporate compliance measures.

Who you are

To thrive at Employment Hero, you'll need to embody The EH Way - operating with focus, agility, and an obsession with impact. For this role, you'll also bring:

• An Australian qualified solicitor certification (multi-jurisdictional qualifications or experience are a bonus).
• 2+ years of experience at a law firm or in-house legal team (tech startup or scaleup experience is preferred).
• Experience with privacy, including global privacy regulations like GDPR, is preferred, but experience with technology, commercial, or IP law is also a plus.
• An understanding of the interplay between legal, policy, and company strategy.
• The ability to work autonomously in a remote business environment with a strong work ethic.
• Strong communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to translate complex legal issues into clear, practical, and commercial advice for non-legal stakeholders.
• A proactive, commercial, and pragmatic approach to risk management and problem-solving.
