Come shape the future of education with us.

At Compass, improving the school day for everyone - staff, parents, and students - has been the driving force behind our widespread success. Our mission is to make every school day more efficient and enjoyable so that everyone can learn to thrive. That’s where you come in. We’re looking for a talented Product Designer to help us make every school day a great experience.

Our school management ecosystem is currently empowering over 5,000 schools across Australia and beyond. With a dedicated team of more than 260 Compass members, we are proud to provide intelligent school management solutions on a global scale.

About the role

As a Product Designer, you’ll join a respected and welcoming design team. You’ll work closely with a range of small, cross-functional teams to improve products that touch every aspect of school life, from attendance call, classes, and homework, to canteens, yearbooks, and more.

As a Product Designer at Compass, you’ll:

  • Own the UX and UI for interesting projects of middling complexity. You’ll work with your engineering and product partners, with a large amount of autonomy across the design process for our web, iOS and Android platforms.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with software engineers, product owners, customer success advocates, and more in an environment where user experience is a respected part of shipping high quality products.
  • Create a shared understanding of our customers’ problems across our organisation through research, analysis, and data storytelling.
  • Contribute to our Compass Design System by maintaining, improving, and building design components, and collaborating with software engineers to bring your designs to life.
  • Assist in maintaining and improving the overall visual language of the Compass suite.
  • Deliver clean and modern designs with exceptional UX, varying from low fidelity wireframes to high-quality interactive prototypes.
  • Present ideas passionately and defend design decisions, as well as incorporate feedback into the design cycle.

Requirements

About You

You will have:

  • 3+ years of professional UX/product design experience in designing and shipping complex or enterprise-level SaaS applications.
  • 2+ years of experience conducting and applying customer research.
  • Strong facilitation and cross-functional collaboration skills, and a demonstrated ability to work across multiple teams to solicit and synthesise feedback and facilitate design discussions.
  • A good understanding of platform conventions for the web. If you’re familiar with iOS and Android too, that’s even better!
  • A strong foundation in user-centred design methodologies and processes, which you use to tackle complex customer problems both independently, and collaboratively.
  • A keen eye for detail and quality.
  • A knack for storytelling, which helps you explain design decisions clearly and convincingly.
  • A portfolio of projects that you’re excited to talk about for hours.
