The role & the team

The Delivery & Quality Manager at Shippit will play a critical role in managing and improving our software delivery lifecycle. This position involves overseeing the capacity, resourcing, and performance of our engineering team while working closely with the CTO, Engineering Managers and teams to ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of our development and delivery processes.

Day to day

  • Software Quality Management:
  • Quality Strategy Leadership: Lead our squads in developing and executing the right quality strategy, balancing confidence with velocity.
  • Testing Practices: Understand our current test coverage and the importance of our mission-critical software role in the logistics industry. Implement various testing strategies and maintain robust quality practices.
  • Quality Assurance: Help maintain strengths in existing processes and address gaps in our quality assurance practices.

  • Software Development & Delivery Management:
  • Coordinate Across Squads: Work across our engineering squads to enable coordination and delivery management.
  • Support and Prioritisation: Assist squads and engineering managers in creating consistent delivery outcomes through process improvements and tactical prioritisation.
  • Process: Review, understand and improve our software development lifecycle processes. Engage others to support scaling change while being the go-to person for them.
  • Stakeholder Communication: Ensure stakeholders are informed, and all execution details are understood.
  • Logistics Expertise: Leverage your past delivery and logistics experience to enhance our operations.
  • Logistics:
  • Collaboration with Logistics Partners: Work with logistics partners within Shippit and our Support teams. Engage with carriers and eCommerce platforms to simplify operations and scale our technology.
  • Team Collaboration:
  • Influence and Support: Influence development teams, senior engineering peers, and leaders across the business. Support teams in enhancing their confidence in delivered work.
  • Continuous Improvement: Regularly collaborate with Engineering Leaders to identify areas for improvement and implement actions to enhance delivery efficiency.
  • Visibility and Communication: Create consistent visibility for executives and other business functions, ensuring understanding and empathy for the delivery efforts within engineering.

  • Technical Skills:
  • Proficiency in Technologies: Comfortable with code reviewing languages such as Ruby, TypeScript, and Go. Familiarity with AWS and GCP.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience with agile methodologies, including fortnightly sprints, Kanban, and Scrumban. Ability to triage practices to understand capabilities and guide teams on their continuous improvement journey.
  • Experience with quality tools, frameworks and methodologies - such as Pact.ai, spec; Jest/ViTest, Playwrite and Quality Testing Framework.
  • Experience:
  • Leadership Experience: Over 7 years of experience in influencing and leading engineering teams as a senior expert or manager.
  • Logistics Understanding: (Nice to have) Understanding of what it takes to move digital and physical “packets” at scale.
  • Stakeholder Management: Demonstrated experience in stakeholder and relationship management with executive leadership and customers.
  • Problem-Solving: Self-driven problem solver with strong influencing skills and a track record of clear outcomes.
  • Multiplier; system builder, creating tools or introducing policies and patterns that raise the level of productivity of the teams and company
  • Measure Success: 
  • Engaged Teams: Successfully engage teams and engineering managers, earning their trust and buy-in for relevant change.
  • Efficiency Improvements: Drive change and efficiency in delivery processes, evidenced by positive stakeholder sentiment and relevant reporting.
  • Creating Visibility: uplift understanding in technology and among stakeholders, ensure more of the right work is delivered with market impact.
  • Incident Reduction: Reduce incidents and severity through quality processes and focused squad efforts on code quality and process.
