About the Role & Team

We’re looking for a passionate individual to join our Griddle (Timetabling) team as a Junior Software Engineer. Reporting to the Griddle Engineering Manager, this role will be working on our new timetabling product, Griddle, where you'll focus on features including: Course Selection, Class List Management, Timetable Generation and much more.

You’ll build and deploy new functionalities, support existing features, improve site scalability, infrastructure and testing, all while working in a highly collaborative and agile environment.

What you'll do:

• Design, develop and maintain secure, scalable software that’s used by thousands of students, parents and teachers throughout the world.
• Inspire quality and best practices by championing software craftsmanship, clean code and pair programming.
• Have the opportunity to gain and practice the skills that will enable you to own the development process for small but interesting projects end-to-end. You’ll work with the Engineering & Product teams to ship work that matters, with a good balance of autonomy and support as you level up your craft. 
• Build great relationships with your team, be generous with your thoughts and feedback (and be open to receiving it!).
• Contribute to our diverse and inclusive culture and take pride in doing work that makes a real difference for school communities.

Requirements

What you'll bring:

• A keen interest in developing a high-quality product while meeting company objectives with other talented developers.
• A passion for software development and an interest in actively keeping up to date with new tech.
• Pride and ownership over the software you build.
• Strong communication and collaboration abilities.
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment.

Tech Stack

• Real world experience (1+ years) in object-oriented programming languages (Java).
• Real world experience (1+ years) in frontend javascript libraries and frameworks (React.js, Node.js and Typescript).
• Exposure working with SQL/NoSQL databases such as MongoDB and designing and implementing database solutions.
• Exposure to testing practices eg. TDD or automation.
• Bonus points for previous experience with Spring Framework, RabbitMQ or AWS.
