Come shape the future of education with us.

We are Compass - smart school management in one connected platform. We believe that time spent in the classroom should be for learning and teaching.

Our two co-founders John and Lucas met over a team lunch and while chowing down on their cafeteria sandwiches they bonded over their unapologetically nerdy love for education technology. After months of white-boarding and long days spent writing thousands of lines of code, Compass 1.0 came to life in 2009 in Lucas’ parents' garage.

Fast forward a decade - it’s no longer just John and Lucas eating sandwiches at the lunch table. Our school management ecosystem is now used in more than 3,500 schools across Australia and beyond. We’re joined by over 260 members of the Compass team, delivering smart school management solutions around the world.

About the Role & Team

As a Business Analyst, you will be a key driver in ensuring high-quality delivery across the product portfolio. Working closely with the Product Manager, Product Owner, and development teams, you will help define, refine, and communicate business and technical requirements that ensure the delivery of user-centric, scalable solutions.

You will lead the triage and prioritisation of incoming work, collaborate with QA to reduce defects over time, and maintain essential documentation that empowers internal teams such as Customer Support and Customer Success. This role sits across multiple project teams, with a focus on enabling execution aligned to strategic market and product objectives.

  • Collaborate with Product Managers and Owners to translate strategic initiatives into clearly defined epics and user stories.
  • Elicit and document functional and non-functional requirements, ensuring clarity and completeness for delivery teams.

  • Partner with Product Owners to refine and prioritise backlog items for inclusion in relevant sprints.
  • Ensure urgent or high-impact issues are assessed and escalated appropriately.
  • Continuously review and refine backlog to ensure alignment with business objectives and customer needs.

Defect Prevention & Quality Assurance Collaboration

  • Collaborate closely with QA Engineers to analyse defect patterns, reduce regression issues, and improve the overall quality of delivered work..
  • Proactively identify gaps in requirements or test coverage and address them early in the development lifecycle.
  • Participate in sprint ceremonies and testing cycles to ensure accuracy of implemented features.

Customer-Centric Insight & Support Enablement

  • Work with Onboarding and Support teams to ensure new schools are set up for success by clarifying workflows, addressing edge cases, and identifying change management needs.
  • Support teams with deep context around functionality and provide timely responses to questions about behaviour or configuration.

Data & Compliance Support

  • Assist with data analysis and mapping to support migration from legacy platforms.
  • Review technical and compliance specifications, especially in support of new jurisdictions or market expansions.
  • Propose and document solutions to ensure jurisdictional requirements are met without compromising usability or scalability.
