About Us:

SunDrive is one of Australia's most exciting start-ups, operating in one of the world's most exciting spaces – renewable energy technology.
We are on a mission to unlock Solar's full potential by revolutionizing how solar cells are made, to unlock new heights of efficiency, cost, and sustainability.

Founded in 2015 by two UNSW roommates (Vince Allen - a PhD student in solar and David Hu – a former investment banker), we have come a long way from the breakthrough made in their garage to producing the world’s most efficient commercial-sized solar cell.

In 2022, we secured $21 million in our Series A funding round and are backed by some of Australia’s top venture capital firms (Blackbird, Main Sequence, Virescent, and Mike Cannon-Brooke’s private investment fund, Grok), tech founders, a former Australian Prime Minister, and the Australian Government.

As our new Maintenance Technician, you will join us on a full-time basis and work alongside a strong mechanical engineering team as part of the wider technical delivery team. Reporting to our Head of Mechanical Engineering this role is perfect for a recent graduate or early-stage professional looking to get a start in the exciting renewables space.

You will focus on:

  • Keeping our production tools and equipment running smoothly, safely, and reliably.
  • Conducting preventative and corrective maintenance to minimise downtime.
  • Supporting the installation and commissioning of new equipment.
  • Partnering with Engineering and R&D teams to improve mechanical systems and test rigs.
  • Maintaining a clean, safe, and compliant work environment.
  • Managing inventory of critical spare parts, tools, and consumables.
  • Fabrication of parts using 3D printers, CNC and other in-house tools.
  • Contributing to the development of Australia’s most advanced solar cell production capability.
  • We would love you to have:

  • Certificate III/IV in Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, or a Mechanical Engineering degree
  • A strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on skills in maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair.
  • Experience with CNC machines, 3D printing, manual fabrication, and plastic welding.
  • A proactive, safety-first mindset and familiarity with WHSE compliance.
  • A knack for problem-solving, planning, and prioritising tasks independently.
  • Excellent teamwork and communication – you’ll work closely with engineers, operators, and other specialists.
