This is an exciting opportunity for an exceptional lawyer with outstanding legal skills and a curious attitude to join THE ICONIC’s Legal Team. 

In this role you will be part of a small but mighty team reporting directly to the Head of Legal & Compliance. You will be involved in providing legal advice across a wide range of legal, compliance, governance and risk matters concerning THE ICONIC’s business operations, with a high degree of autonomy.

 About You

You’re an energetic, passionate, think-outside-of-the-box kind of lawyer who is able to engage with all areas of the business, on multiple projects and keep pace in a dynamic and fast-moving environment.  

Specifically you are / have / hold:

  • Pragmatic, solutions focused, and commercially astute lawyer who is results oriented;
  • Genuine interest in e-commerce, fashion, retail, high growth, scale-up or tech related matters;
  • Knowledge of the legislative and regulatory environment relevant to THE ICONIC’s business operations with a keen interest in monitoring developments in Australia & New Zealand;
  • Ability to identify, mitigate and manage risks in a manner that aligns with the organisations’ risk appetite and objectives, whilst also exercising good judgement;
  • Strong team player, who has the ability to work in a small yet focussed regional team, and also work seamlessly with the wider Global Legal Team in other jurisdictions;
  • Collaborative approach with an ability to influence stakeholders and build strong working relationships across the business;
  • Innovative legal operations mindset with the ability to identify and implement better ways of doing things; 
  • Willing to roll your sleeves up and get things done.

 Responsibilities:

  • Partner closely with various teams including Category Management, Operations, Marketing/Customer, Tech, Data and Product to provide clear, sound and commercially pragmatic advice across a variety of subject areas including commercial contracts, consumer protection law, competition law, privacy law and intellectual property law;
  • Draft, review and negotiate a wide array of commercial agreements including: services agreements, supplier trading agreements, SAAS agreements, data processing agreements, marketing agreements and supply agreements;
  • Partner with colleagues at Global Fashion Group on group-wide legal, governance and compliance initiatives and support ongoing development and delivery of compliance programs
  • Assist with the management of a variety of commercial disputes and regulatory matters; 
  • Review and provide clearance on campaign and marketing collateral including review of promotional or customer-facing terms and conditions;
  • Monitor and respond to developments in legislation relevant to the e-commerce industry, and contribute to the development of templates, training resources and legal updates suitable for circulating to stakeholder forums including senior leadership, functional management and various governance, risk & compliance committees; and
  • Work closely with the Head of Legal & Compliance and members of the Legal Team to strategically plan objectives and key results for the legal function.

Requirements:

  • 3-6 years PQE in a reputable law firm, or alternatively in-house in a large multinational corporation, with strong contract drafting and negotiation skills and business advisory on complex legal and compliance matters. 
  • Bachelor of Laws (LLB) or Juris Doctor (JD) with strong academic credentials and a current Australian practising certificate;
  • Experience with Word and/or GSuite, as well as comfortable with utilising/exploring other technologies.
