About the role

We are looking for a Head of Product Design to own and elevate the full member experience across Sonder’s product ecosystem. Operating at the intersection of healthcare, safety, and AI, your challenge is to build more than just features - you are building trust.

We’re looking for a hands-on leader who is still deep in the craft but ready to scale a world-class design function. You’ll own the vision for our core member journeys, using AI to bridge the gap between technology and the human touch that sets Sonder apart. By mentoring a high-performing team and championing AI-assisted workflows, you’ll accelerate our output while upholding the highest standards of clinical safety and integrity.

What You’ll Be Doing

• Own the end-to-end journey across the app and digital touchpoints to ensure consistency across safety, medical, and mental health workflows.

• Define design principles that reinforce trust, clarity, and human connection during high-stakes member moments.

• Partner cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, and Clinical teams to align experience with business impact.

AI-Enabled Innovation

• Lead AI integration by establishing standards for transparency, explainability, and user control.

• Accelerate velocity by using modern AI tools (Figma Make, Cursor, Claude) to prototype and validate concepts rapidly.

Craft & Team Leadership

• Prototype & ship high-fidelity concepts to support discovery and strategic bets; this is a "player-coach" role.

• Mentor a high-impact team, establishing operating rhythms for critique, research, and scalable design systems.

• Raise design literacy across Sonder, enabling non-designers to prototype within clear guardrails.

What You Will Bring to the Team

• Extensive Product Design background in high-quality consumer applications; consumer-grade UX is essential.

• Emerging leadership in a similarly complex environment

• Proven track record of managing multiple design workstreams and mentoring and recruiting junior talent.

• Deep craft expertise across user research, interaction design, and systems thinking and tools such as Figma. 

• Previous experience with AI design and prototyping tools such as Figma Make, Cursor, Claude Code and similar to accelerate concept validation

• Product-minded & pragmatic, with the ability to translate business strategy into coherent experience frameworks.

• Low ego, high impact, leading through clarity and craft rather than delegation
