Job Description
As a Data Engineer you will be responsible for developing and implementing our data strategy - which spans engineering, analytics and science across all our capabilities - from marketing through to risk management. While you will have primary responsibility for data engineering related projects and tasks, you should be comfortable with working cross domain, and contributing to our analytics and science capabilities. You will be familiar and comfortable with engaging with financial services products and understanding their data and monetary flows. You are comfortable working cross functionally, internally and externally driving projects and providing insight, staying multiple ‘moves’ ahead of where we are.

Responsibilities

Engineering

  • Design, develop, and maintain robust data pipelines and workflows to support analytics and machine learning.
  • Build and optimise data platforms using Databricks for large-scale data processing and analysis.
  • Develop and maintain data models and transformation workflows using dbt.
  • Automate workflows and orchestrate data pipelines 
  • Collaborate with data scientists and machine learning engineers to deploy ML models into production environments.
  • Monitor and troubleshoot data pipeline performance and resolve technical issues.
  • Ensure data quality, consistency, and security across platforms.
  • Analytics

  • Write efficient and scalable queries in SQL to transform and analyse data.
  • Guidance and selection of quantitative and qualitative methodologies in business decisioning 
  • Science

  • Contribution to development and implementation of Zeller’s Machine Learning approach across all business applications and domains - from pricing to risk management and beyond.
  • This will include, developing and training machine learning models to scale workflows for both customers and internal usersSupport new product development ideas by providing guidance on the best use of AI/ML to develop products or supporting tools.
  • Qualifications and experience

  • 5+ years of experience in BI / Data Science in a high growth environment 
  • Strong mathematical & numeracy skills
  • Extensive experience in SQL, noSQL, Python
  • Understanding of ETL framework and ETL tools including dbt, AirByte, Apache Airflow
  • Excellent analytical skills - the ability to identify trends, patterns and insights from data
  • Experience with ML / AI models and their application to business problems such as churn, cross sell, risk assessment and other 
  • Experience with real-time data streaming technologies (e.g., Kafka or Spark Streaming).
  • Knowledge of DevOps and CI/CD practices for data pipelines.
  • Strong understanding of ETL/ELT processes and data integration techniques.
  • Knowledge of machine learning workflows, including data preparation and model deployment.
  • Experience with version control systems like Git.
  • Experience in using data orchestration and/or data quality monitoring tools would be bonus
