About the role

As a Registered Counsellor, You’ll  provide therapy & guidance to our members who actively seek our help.  You’ll ease their distress and help them design and action a plan so they can better manage their situation. You'll work with a variety of mental health presentations, age groups and cultural backgrounds. 

Sessions are conducted via phone or video conferencing with 6 appointments per day. Should you need advice or escalate a case, you will be supported by a multidisciplinary team. 

You will be part of a progressive and holistic well-being company that is supported by a high-tech platform, the first of its kind. 

This is a permanent position and you will work across both AM & PM shifts  that are between 8:30am - 10:00pm.

What you’ll be doing

  • Providing short-term mental health and well-being support to our members who have been assessed as having no or low risk to themselves or others
  • Assisting our members to self-regulate, develop and maintain goals
  • We provide our members with contact information for relevant community services (from support services to mental health websites)
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and a commitment to improving the health outcomes of Sonder members from diverse cultural backgrounds
  • Document the member’s progress and update their management plans as required

Who are we looking for?

The ideal candidate is passionate, self-motivated, and takes pride in producing high-quality work every day. Above all else, you - the ideal candidate - will embody the Sonder values and love working in a fast-paced, dynamic workplace.

What you bring to the team;

  • Bachelor's degree in New Zealand in Counselling or equivalent is essential
  • Minimum of 3 years of direct experience in 1-2-1 therapy sessions with adults. This should include conducting assessments, developing individualized treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each individual. 
  • Registered with the New Zealand Association of Counsellors.
  • Completed 400 hours of documented instruction in Counselling-specific subjects
  • Completed 140 hours of delivered therapy
  • Broad experience across a range of mental health presentations
  • Ability to work with members across all age groups and cultural backgrounds.
  • Strong risk assessment skills
