The role

Reporting into the Data Engineering Lead, you will design, build, maintain and optimise an easy and secure-to-use data platform that supports data-driven decision-making across Sonder and its products. 

As a senior member of the team, you will be comfortable turning your hand to a wide range of tasks and projects within the data environment. 

You will play a crucial role in implementing a more reliable platform and be confident working through process improvements. You will be able to define and roll out best practice for the data team

By leveraging your expertise in CI/CD tools, cloud technologies, and infrastructure automation frameworks, you will enable faster and more agile development cycles, enhance scalability and reproducibility of data infrastructure, and contribute to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of our data engineering initiatives as we grow and mature.

What you’ll be doing

  • Work on our brand new data warehouse to design, implement and mature the CI and CD process
  • Coach mid-level and junior data engineers
  • Work on the implementation of our data products and their socialisation across many stakeholders. 
  • Support the implementation of data governance policies in the data warehouse and automate our data infrastructure processes.
  • Building and maintaining ELT/ETL processes in the Sonder data warehouse (Snowflake)
  • Optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices.
  • Deploy Snowflake and AWS resources using infrastructure as code implementation.
  • Build and maintain data infrastructure pipelines.
  • Apply the data governance policies and ensure the code and data respects all the
  • Building and publishing standardised data sets in the Enterprise Layer of the data warehouse working in conjunction with the data analysts to document the semantic, business definitions for the data sets and metrics.
  • Collaborating with data analysts and data owners across the business to ensure the data governance framework is implemented, bringing the expected value and evolving as the business needs evolve.

To be successful in this role, you should have; 

  • Relevant tertiary qualifications in Design Computing/Computer Science/Web Development.
  • 3+ years of experience in data engineering.
  • Proficiency in programming languages like Python, and SQL.
  • Prior Experience with AWS (S3, DMS, Kinesis, etc.).
  • Experience working with Snowflake
  • Experience with DBT ETL tool
  • An ability to design and create Data Layer requirements and specifications for implementation.
  • Experience working in agile environments is an advantage.
  • Prior experience with Pulumi and Jenkins is a plus.
