About the role
We are looking for a Data Engineer to help design, build, maintain, and optimise a secure, user-friendly data platform that empowers data-driven decision-making across Sonder and its products. The data engineering function focuses on three key areas: Automation, Data Modelling, and Data Governance, Quality, and Security.
In this role, you will be instrumental in automating CI/CD pipelines, ensuring efficient and reliable data workflows, and optimising infrastructure. By leveraging your expertise in CI/CD tools, cloud technologies, and infrastructure automation, you’ll enhance development cycles, scalability, and reproducibility of data systems. Additionally, you will help implement data security, quality, and integrity measures, while evolving our data governance framework and enforcing policies within the data warehouse. You will also coach junior engineers, contribute to the implementation and socialisation of data products across stakeholders, and automate our data infrastructure processes.
What you’ll be doing
- Deploy Snowflake and AWS resources using Infrastructure as Code (IaC) implementation.
- Build and maintain data infrastructure pipelines.
- Design, build, and maintain CI and CD pipelines to enable efficient and reliable data operations.
- Deploy data pipelines following CI and CD principles, incorporating automated code and data testing.
- Build and maintain ELT/ETL processes in the Sonder data warehouse (Snowflake).
- Optimise data pipelines for performance, scalability, and cost-efficiency, leveraging cutting-edge technologies and industry best practices.
- Apply data governance policies and ensure code and data respect all relevant standards.
- Support upskilling of Data Analysts and other stakeholders to be proficient in dbt and SQL.
- Mentor more junior data engineers.
- Recommend continuous improvements to data quality procedures.
- Provide support for data quality and validation through data analysis, helping stakeholders understand the meaning of data.
- Ensure Data Governance standards are incorporated at the implementation level.

What you bring to the team;
- Tertiary qualifications in Design Computing, Computer Science, or related field.
- 3+ years of experience in data engineering.
- Strong experience with AWS (CDK, S3, DMS, Kinesis).
- Proficiency in SQL.
- Proficiency in Snowflake, dbt, and ELT tools (Fivetran, Airbyte, etc.).
- Prior experience with Python and Github is a plus.
- Experience with Python and GitHub is a plus.
- Familiarity with Data Quality and Data Classification.
- Strong understanding of cloud-based data warehousing solutions.
- Ability to communicate effectively with both technical and non-technical teams.
- Passion for learning new technologies and solving real-world challenges.
- Self-motivated, with a strong sense of ownership and the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Comfortable with fast-paced environments and adaptability to change.
