To support Koala’s core category - mattress - and it's success in the coming years, specifically on hard technical and innovation engineering challenges. This role will be working with Koala designers, product management, and quality teams internally and our suppliers closely to improve product efficiency and customer experience, and contribute to innovation in the Sleep category.

Requirements

What key responsibilities does this role have @ Koala?

• Take leading technical & innovation responsibility roles in the sleep category, including mattress/pillow/sleeping accessories/homewares; including but not limited to, material selection and specification, construction design & validation and with production friendly in consideration.
• Lead and responsible for sleep engineering team member's development and growth. 
• Accountable for Sleep category engineering team overall deliveries. 
• Take a leading responsible role for mattress products engineering solution deliveries.

• Making product documentation & specification on mattresses for suppliers to follow in production.
• Creating innovative packaging solutions and assembly instructions.

• Working closely with Product Designers, resolving part design to ensure optimal user experience while constantly pushing to minimize part complexity and cost.
• Responsible for sleep category engineering solution improvement opportunities and implementation.
• Understanding legal requirements (and relevant standards) and ensuring product compliance.
• Working with the Quality team to develop and implement in-house testing capability, including lifecycle and other performance testing.
• Working with Product Managers to communicate the technical agenda with suppliers and other development partners.
• Supporting other engineering managers on communicating effectively with key stakeholders, and building the engineering team agenda.
• Working closely with Designer and Product managers/Developers to secure the assigned product development project success on time, including expressing the rationale of design and new design decisions, sourcing required information (internally and externally) as well as identifying, escalating and resolving issues arising from the design process.

Ideal background…

• Mechanical/Product Engineering education background.
• Advanced knowledge of Illustrator or similar software. 
• 5-10 years of experience in a design/product engineering (or similar) role with exposure to high volume manufacturing is preferred.
• 5-10 years experience with sleep/foam product relevant experience, especially on mattress, deep understanding of mattress materials, construction, product setup and industrial development trends. 
• Good people leading experience.  
• Strong curiosity & ambition; enjoys problem solving.
• Team player, with strong supportive and positive spirit.
• Experience in the following:
• Developing solutions to problems / obstacles that arise through Product development and concept generation.
• Creating drawings, specifications and technical documentation including QC/QA tolerance checks for production.
• Development and production of prototypes for physical testing of specific component performance and product design performance elements.
